re: Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs

I’ve said this once & I’ll say it again, XUV700 will surely mark a good run surpassing the competition with a fair bit of lead without a doubt!

The car looks stunning in that maroon / red shade. Mahindra will prove they’re in the market for SUV’s and XUV700 will stand as a testament for it. Safari will face direct heat for sure.

re: Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs

I think the video was shot in a manner as to minimize the painful points and highlight the less objectionable side of the XUV 700. It does not convince me that the car looks any better. The outlandish front lamp set up and the oversize rear lamps set up will not be such an eyesore when seen from a distance in a moving car but come closer and it is a different story. The upright tailgate makes it look like an MPV and not an SUV. Overall, this design is still causing strong allergic reactions for me.

And the red color also masks the garish tail lamps to an extend. In contrast, the front lamp setup looks as bad as the earlier skewed spyshot. I think one of the reasons all the camouflaged units looked better was due to the fact all the overdone elements where hidden underneath.

But I am relieved its not as ugly as the recent spyshots suggested. Still at the top of my list of options for an upgrade; if priced right, I'll just bite the bullet in terms of its looks.

re: Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs

All the new features XUV700 is showcasing is most probably in the higher versions only. So there is a chance that the lower versions could be priced around Safari's starting price to make it more competitive.

re: Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs

Guys! This was always gonna be the play. XUV7OO was always supposed to be the new XUV5OO. That's why it looks like a pokemon evolution of XUV5OO For whatever reason, Mahindra decided that they are no longer going to focus on small SUVs, but on mid size and full size SUVs. With compact SUVs already breaching the 15L price tag, and next gen Scorpio on the way, Mahindra simply doesn't have enough gap to price the XUV like they used to. That could be when the nameplate was changed to XUV7OO, ensuring continuity in the grand scheme of things, but also hinting at a step up in the model ladder. And to top things of, they could add a sports activity coupe in the name of XUV9OO that could foray into premium category as well.

I am quite sure Mahindra will throw in a surprise and match Safari on pricing. For instance- Ex showroom prices as per cardekho for Pune OTR-

XUV500 W11 O AT- 24L
Safari Adventure edition AT- 26.67L

There is already a healthy gap of 2.67L between the Safari and XUV500. IMO atmost the XUV will command a premium of 50K over the Safari, but not more than that. This has always been the Mahindra strategy. Provide value at aboslutely unthinkable prices!( quality of value is another question, but again it's not like Tata has the Gold standard in Quality)

To conclude- a 3.2L premium over current XUV top end model is what they should be targetting.

May be, they should position it below Baleno, get some very good numbers, and go bankrupt in three months.
Probably, what he meant was base model(manual) of xuv 700 should undercut top model of creta(automatic).

Don't know if this has been highlighted earlier. Just noticed in the television advertisement that the driving modes are available only in diesel version.

Very unlikely as it was not worded that way. Also base model of XUV700 will *in all likelihood* be priced below top model of Creta AT. There are no two ways about it.

Does it also mean base manual of XUV700 should undercut top model of Safari AT? (As it was used in the same sentence along with Creta)

re: Mahindra XUV700, now launched at 11.99 lakhs

Mahindra is still the king of affordable SUV/Offroad space.
And so far with all the launches including the latest Bolero Neo, it has proved its claim.

This XUV700 is going to be their flagship product. M&M will definitely not take a chance with this product (since they are also going to end the current XUV500 which is due for a complete make-over and launch in 2023/2024).

Even though looks are subjective, the looks of the XUV700 (with whatever media/public captures so far available on the web), are good (if not excellent). It is not as bad as the current Creta. Now it all depends on what is beneath, inside, character, and of course the weight on the wallet.
I strongly anticipate that the pricing will be very aggressive. The top-end will definitely be at least 1-2 lakhs more expensive than the Safari due more features and optional AWD. The entry model may also be marginally expensive than Safari.

The waiting only gets more excited and eager (I am waiting for more than 2 years now).

Forget under-cutting the Creta.
It would be surprising if they manage to undercut even the Safari, considering the long list of features.

By the way, there is a difference of Rs 5 Lakhs between the Creta & Safari, if we do a like to like comparison of equivalent variants.

+1

Mahindra can never build a premium brand if they undercut Safari. In fact, XUV700 undercutting Safari despite the more powerful engine and better pedigree (XUV500/Scorpio always outsold the previous gen Safari) will mean Mahindra has accepted overtly that Tata is the more premium brand.

Mahindra can price XUV700 at a very slight premium over Safari at launch (to make it difficult for Tata motors to sway prospective customers with discounts) and gradually increase the price over the next few years.

Rather than pitting the new Scorpio against the Harrier, If Mahindra can knock off the last row seats and chop about 10 cm of length and re-launch the present generation XUV500 at a price point 1-1.2 lacs less (they were giving the discounts anyway. It is better to make it official with the relaunch) variant to variant, it can take off some sales from Harrier/Hector/Creta and Seltos.
