Spotted tata safari 2.1 near dealership in Pune

I was near pandit automobiles[pune city] and spotted a safari with a 2.1 badge.I heard the engine only, did not get a test drive but it felt as refined as the d4d innova. But definitely felt like a diesel.Otherwise looks exactly like the older safari no change at all, pics wont be of any help.

I could not get any details unfortunately.I can do so only on monday/tuesday.If anybody stays near pandit automobiles in Pune city, they could kindly check up.I would only be free on monday and will check up myself only on monday/tuesday.

But with all the talk of 2.2 L engine am wondering where this 2.1 has now come up?

IIRC the Petrol Safari was badged as a 2.1 I think you saw that & of course that also explains the low NVH.

It's the petrol, but pretty close anyway. The 2.2 Dicor will use the same block and probably the same bore as well.

Doesnt reflect vey well on Tata's does it

And I wonder why they share major engine components for petrols and diesels(Indica) except cost benefits. It really made the petrol engine very lethargic, when it could have been so much better with lighter components.

While we are at it, can anyone confirm if the 2.1 was detuned lately? Emissions/FE perhaps?

Also, till date, I have only seen around five Safari Petrols. One of them was, surprisingly, a Taxi. And another one I see quite regularly is a silver one, driven by a woman. (Must be someone returning from the USofA, otherwise who buys a petrol SUV? :P ).

I too saw one 2.1 Safari. Had a badge near the C pillar which said 16V.
