Maruti sold 73,907 CNG vehicles in FY2016-17. Since then, the carmaker has registered steady growth. In the last fiscal, 1,06,444 CNG vehicles were sold.

At present, Maruti Suzuki offers S-CNG variants of the Alto, Celerio, Wagon-R, S-Presso, Eeco, Ertiga, Tour S and the Super Carry LCV.

The CNG variants come equipped with Dual Interdependent ECUs and re-tuned chassis, suspensions and braking systems. The vehicles are tested for crashworthiness and durability.

Maruti offers an extended warranty of up to 5 years on its CNG vehicles.

With both petrol and diesel prices hovering around the century mark per litre, CNG (wherever available) is helping them to not miss their small diesels from the cost of running perspective. Did they have a premonition of the impending movements in fuel prices?

Expect their tag line "Kitna Deti Hai?" to change to "Kitna Kharcha Kiya Hai?" rl:

While on this subject, can't help thinking how Tata has gone the other way. There was a time they had a Nano CNG, Indigo CS CNG, Indica CNG and now they have none in their small car range. Even Hyundai still has a couple of models in their portfolio.

The CNG packaging in the Nano under the front seats was one of its kind, giving lower running costs with an extended range over and above the petrol range but yet did not eat into any boot space.

Wonder why they are not considering a CNG version of the Nexon? After all it has a petrol, diesel and even an electric version (though the charging infrastructure is more challenging than CNG in most metros).

Imagine the CNG Nexon with 2 CNG tanks under the front seats (replicated from the Nano). It can be the first CSUV on CNG, i.e. with lower running costs + better range than the petrol + proven safety + possible sun roof + possible AMT.

What more would one want in our major metros in the CSUV segment?
