Update: BMW has confirmed that the 745Le xDrive plug-in hybrid is still on sale in India.

BMW has discontinued the 745Le xDrive plug-in hybrid in India. The German car maker now has no hybrid and electric cars on sale in India.



Earlier, BMW had the i8 on sale and was considering launching the i3 electric car as well.

The 745Le plug-in hybrid uses a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder petrol engine. The combined output of the petrol engine and hybrid system is 379 BHP and 600 Nm. The car can run on battery power for up to 53 km and can reach a claimed top speed of 140 km/h (in electric mode). The battery can be recharged using a standard charging cable in 8-12 hours. With a fast charger, it charges in 4-5 hours.

I have lost respect for BMW in India. They are lacklustre, no i3, no e models, just peddling same old engines and now prices are shooting up without any reason.

This is sad. I hope they don't bring in those terrible electric i models. Hybrid makes way more in India than fully electric vehicles.

It made no sense to bring such vehicles here or for that matter launch anywhere at first place but just like everybody, one has to first learn alphabets before writing sentences.

50 km on batteries is too little and not worth the hardware/ money that’s spend. Regular BMW engines have never felt any need for mor torque either so apart from the publicity that they are also into this electric space, this car had no significance.

However, in coming years, we can see proper electric cars from Germany. Good riddance.
