I endorse this completely.
I have faced an irritating stone hit from a passing truck which caused a crack and had to replace the windshield. If one compares rhe windshield rake angle of the Jeep Wrangler vs our Thar, we can see the difference.

Post 2024 is what my dealership where I booked Scorpio N also mentioned, initially i thought it might be to dissuade me from cancelling Scorpio N since I believe Jimny will take away some thar customers for sure, Mahindra should infact have Thar5D on priority.

I spotted the 5 door thar under camouflage in Manali on the evening of 22nd January 2023. Sadly, the design blunder of different design of wheel arch at the front Vs the wheel arch at the back have not been fixed even now from the 3 door model. Why is the rear wheel arch circular? Why couldn't they simply make them the same at front and at the back like the Jeep? Also spotted a new pick up truck and ScorpioN under camouflage.

Please view the pictures and scale models of the Jeep. Of course our new Thar also carries the same basic DNA which seems to have driven the design.
The original Jeep design always had semi circular rear wheel arches.
It is only with the advent of the new Jeep Wrangler from 1987 onwards that the rear wheel arches became squared off.

The Mahindra heritage has always had the squared-off wheel arch at the front and circular wheel arch at the rear. So it’s obvious that the Thar will also follow the same.

And another major reason is the Jeep Wrangler’s wheel arches! Mahindra couldn’t have copied that for obvious reasons!

What are the chances that the 5-door Thar launch happens around start of sales of the Jimny 5 door ? For all the allure of the Jimny 5-door, the Thar 5-door is more practical because of the space it offers inside. Other factors can be debated a bit, though.

My thoughts are that the 5-door Thar will be a good hit, bringing in more buyers who want a Thar, but are staying away because of the problems with the 3-door Thar for family use - specifically, getting in, and the space for passengers and luggage.

If the to be launched 5 door Thar does well, this will probably be one of the major factors for good sales volumes.
Even lifestyle owners who do not offroad or offroad occasionally have bought the 2 door Thar, but they are missing on space and family carriage. Here is where the 5 door will be a true winner.

I agree. I have (and like) the 3 door Thar. Largely because in my case everything in life is Heart over Head and there is NOTHING quite like a 3 door SWB Jeepy thing.
Its only occasionally that we are 3 passengers and luggage in this vehicle and our packing therefore becomes constrained.
However, I have made the tumble fold seat modification and now it is absolute bliss for 2 people and luggage.
The 5 door Thar IS most certainly going to be the smart way to go for most people seeking adventure, rugged looks and practicality and for those who have overlanding aspirations.
I guess here also we can expect seriously long wait times. Unless of course, M&M do something and severely ramp up their production.

RWD 5 door Thar spied. No 4x4 lever.
Also notice the position of door handle on rear door.
