Tata Motors - Media Centre

Tata Motors has expanded the long wheel base Indigo XL’s range with the launch of the Indigo XL Classic. The Indigo XL Classic offers a different trim level, while still offering more comfort and legroom than any of the other premium sedans. Earlier this year, Tata Motors had launched the Indigo XL in only the Grand trim.

The new Indigo XL Classic shares several top of the line features with the currently available Indigo XL Grand, such as the wood trim interiors, the new look AC fascia & instrument cluster, composite steering wheel, utility trays behind the seats, and a rear seat centre armrest with cup holders. The rear seat still has the distinction of having the best rear seat inclination of 28.50 among all sedans and the best legroom. Also available are the rear AC console with separate control, a chiller tray in the glove box, and one touch power windows in the front and rear. The seats are now upholstered in premium fabric, and the front seats offer 6– way manual adjustment along with lumbar adjustment.

Exterior features such as the dual beam clear lens headlamps, sleek tail lamps, front fog lamps, chrome embellishments on the satin painted front grille, electrically operated outer rear view mirrors with blinkers are standard, while the Indigo XL Classic comes with steel wheels with full hubcaps.

The Indigo XL Classic is available with the same petrol and diesel powerplants as the Indigo XL Grand. The petrol variant is equipped with a 16V Twin Cam engine and churns out 101 PS @ 6100 rpm. The diesel variant comes with the common rail diesel DICOR engine that generates 70 PS @ 4000 rpm.

The Indigo XL Classic 101PS petrol has been priced at Rs.5.35 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi) and the 70PS DICOR variant comes at a price of Rs. 6.15 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi)

My comments: SOunds like a good deal, atleast for the petrol version.

NEW DELHI: India's largest automobile company Tata Motors on Thursday launched a new model in its Indigo XL range, which comes with a longer wheel base.

The new Indigo XL Classic is available in petrol and diesel variants and is priced at Rs 5.35 lakh and Rs 6.15 lakh respectively (ex-showroom Delhi), a company release said.

The company claims Indigo XL Classic offers a different trim level, with more comfort and legroom than any of the other premium sedans.

The petrol variant is equipped with a 16V Twin Cam engine and diesel variant comes with the common rail diesel DICOR engine, it said.

Pity there's no stretch Marina from Tata Motors yet.
Would have proved to be an excellent delivery van! lol:

Incidentally, Tata have actually sold the Sierra and Safari as delivery vans in UK!

yes Sierra or Gurkha as it is known and Safari have been sold as Delivery vans, but so have Vauxhall Astra's, Fiat Punto's, Ford Escort's. It is not as funny as you make it sound!!! If there is a market, Tata will sell.

Run Logan Run!!

This is really going to hot things up.... at 5.35, even Ikon has to run!!!

The pun was made because in Europe, the Astras, Puntos and Escorts were never marketed as upmarket models whereas Sierra and Safari were positioned by Tata as up-market, lifestyle vehicles in India even though they had the same specs as the European models marketed as delivery vans.

In the same way that the Escorts, Astra's were marketed as Up-market luxury vehicles.

Oh by the way I forgot, the Landrover Freelander had a van version too!

Weren't the Astra's and Escorts marketed here (in India) as Premium Luxury Sedans having the same specs as delivery vans in UK? The issue is not that whether a version of a vehicle is sold as a delivery van, the quality of it is. What I am told is there was a gap between the Vauxhall astra vans and the next higher Ford Transit category which is where these Gurkhas fit in. Nothing shameful about it, but what was shameful was how embarrassing these vehicles turned out to be after the initial few months were over. UK found a new butt off all jokes after Lada.

tata surely has something to always fire up the market, but pity is that they still use the same platform and same kind of looks with all their cars. they surely are gonna give renault a run for their money though with the xl classic. i ve seen the xl and its amazingly spacious at the rear. you can have a mini home at the back!

im in love with the XLs but i havent seen too many on the road at least in mumbai. tata offers a good value for money proposition but it always skimps on quality..that will never win me as a customer!

Now why i am getting a feeling at this price the classic is going to make a good taxi car

but here in chandigarh we have not to many but a good no. of XLs on the road

Hasnot this topic been discussed earlier?? Anywayz i checked out the car two weeks back and the exective challenged me that the car had alloys. Then when we came in front of the car he still stood on his words these are alloys i told him these are wheel caps on steel wheels. Then he checked the boot and was shocked. He still could not belive it, so he opened the rear door and tried to find LCD's behind the front headrests. Yes, i never saw him after that, he vanished somewhere intentionally to hide his face stupid:

So the discounts/cut-priced version of the Indigo XL comes to the market. Must admit, it's been launched faster than I expected, but rest assured that this might get TATA a few sales compared to the original over-priced XL.

Let's see how this works out esp. with the Taxi sector.

At 5.35 lakhs ex showroom, its the only big sedan in the market selling below six lakhs.
Even the diesel at 6.15 is more value for money than logan.
With Tata Petrols getting accepted in form of the Xeta, its only a matter of time people start buying indigo XL petrol.
Two years ago, it was unthinkable buying a petrol indica, with all and sundry asking you whats wrong with you, today Xeta is being accepted.
With this 100bhp indigo XL classic, people may flock to it.
Now only if the introduce the same engine in the petrol indigo at around 4.9L!

How much more does the stretch really cost TATA. Why dont they discontinue the current Indigo and only sell the LWB version?
