I few years ago, "Overdrive" made a very good effort in testing Indian cars on track to decide on, the best handling car in India, which the City 1.5 eventually won.

It's been a long wait since then. New, powerful cars have entered the Indian market now but, no one seems to know how good these cars really are, on the absolute limit.

Comparison tests used to be fun but, now we feel the need for something more interesting.

So what do you say, Overdrive!!! How about another doze of that amazing event yo'll pulled off, back in 2001.

I bet it would be great to see the Vtec go against the Ikon, Lancer and Palio, the Mondeo being put to the test against the New Accord and the Corolla try and make it's place as the performance king of it's class.

What say guys!!! Is that interesting or what???

Let the cars decide, who's the best.

Regards...

Correction Shan2nu,

It is the lancer which was rated the best handler with the City 1.5 in second place...The pure handling test was held on a slalom which constituted a part of the entire track.

However, on a full fledged lap around the track, it was the city which came out with top honours with the Lancer in second place. The Lancer lost out on the lap timing due to the power deficit between itself and the 100hp City OR The City made up for its second best handling with its additional horses. I am certain the Lancer 1.8 will take care of that issue.

In fact even BSMotoring had conducted a similar track test between the Baleno, City, Lancer and an Accent. In this test, it was the Baleno which got the best timing of the day around the track.

I totally agree....a track test of the current breed of cars is long overdue.

There's only one test that really interests me.

How about......City Vtec vs Corolla vs Lancer 1.8 vs Mondeo!!!

I know the Vtec has a disadvantage of being the smallest and the least powerful car. It maynot have the accelration of the Corolla or the handling of the Lancer and Mondeo, it maynot even win the race but, i can be sure of one thing......it won't finish last.

But then, you never know, life is full of surprises. Anything can happen.

OVERDRIVE!!!!!!When are we gonna see events like these being held here???

Regards...

Great idea!

I would like to see how the Verna-D compares against it's petrol rivals. I have seen people here talk about how a Verna-D will destroy NHC/OHC VTECs or even the corrolla. Would like to see how true that is!

Track is 90% driver and 10% car. I've seen good drivers in crap cars keep up with decent drivers in good cars. It's a bit subjective, really.

If you race all cars at the same time then yes it's subjective. But if you have 3 good drivers drive all cars around a track, each car gets equal opportunity.

This thread is too old now. As most of us know, OD has already had a track test at Kari (which the RS won) after this thread was started.

I would love to see Cedia vs Octavia vs Lancer handling comparison.

Another interesting concept would be to pit the old vs new, from the same manufacturer. Eg : OHC VTEC vs NHC VTEC - Baleno vs SX4 - Ikon vs Fiesta - Esteem vs Swift - Qualis vs Innova etc

I'm sure many of the new car owners would like to know how their cars compare to their older versions.

Great thoughts

It would be really great to see them tested again.
But I would prefer that the newer entrants be tested, like Swift, SX4, 2008 Accord( suppossed to be here by May), Fabia and I am sure this time the winner will be someone else either SX4 or Civic and may be fiesta.

Lancer was a really good car that can teach the new and modern cars a thing or two. The balance of the chasis and the entire setup was really on the best and can still hold up its own today against the modern cars. Cidea can make others sweat with slightly wider footwear.

The results of those matchups are already known !! lol...

The only interesting battle will be between the Ikon and the Fiesta. Both are good handlers.

The Esteem cant really be compared to the Swift, can it ?

A diesel mahamatch should also be fun as diesel seems to be hot these days. A shootout betwen Palio D, Getz D, Swift D, Fabia D and Dzire D can choose the newest cool car
Another shootout between Verna D, Optra D and Octi also should be cool.
