re: Next-gen Maruti Alto (Y0M) caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 3.99 lakh

Am I the only one who thinks that the headlamp bears resemblance to the Grand i10 Nios?

Pretty shoddy design by MS. The older Altos looked much neater. Heck, I'd call the Celerio 'sexy' compared to this thing.

Don’t care about the looks or features- just looking to get it for the automatic transmission. Hoping it comes under ₹6L on road. I’ve been a huge advocate of safety but this segment does not even have any competitors. Seriously hope it has 2 airbags and ABS+EBD in the AMT variant.

I am glad that Maruti is not discontinuing the 800cc variant and plan to sell it alongside. That 800cc motor is a gem in our everyday chaotic scenes. It has a great low end torque, a slick gearshift and a quick steering making life really stress free.

Even I thought the same when I first saw the images of the new Alto.

If priced right and with good economy figures, I will go for it as second runabout car replacing our old diesel Dzire.

re: Next-gen Maruti Alto (Y0M) caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 3.99 lakh

I wonder what is the market proposition for 3 cars with similar size and performance attributes, namely , Celerio, SPresso and the upcoming Alto 1.0. Personally, I was more impressed by the ugly SPresso in terms of its overall usability, given its easy ingress/ egress, decent space and compact dimensions. The Celerio looks way too overpriced and the only saving grace are the 300 ltr boot, awkwardly placed ,l but nonetheless available rear pwer windows and rear wiper. But the SPresso has more ground clearance and ( now) ESP in the AGS variants. What purpose will this new Alto 1.0 serve unless it has a tantalising price?

The more the merrier they say, just gives you more options to choose from, I guess. I think Alto will be cheapest of the lot, followed by S-Presso and then the Celerio

I am not too sure about that. The 800cc engine or F8D as it is termed is a heavy engine and is not BSVI Gen2 compliant yet as far as I know. Also, the homologation documents leaked do not show any 800cc configuration. The K10C is a ready made engine and Suzuki will get economies of scale by broadening it's application. But it is an expensive engine to build. So, I am not too sure how Suzuki will maintain the "cheap as chips" pricing for the Alto. I think the turbo charged R06 kei car engine would have been a better engine.

re: Next-gen Maruti Alto (Y0M) caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 3.99 lakh

Its front design is looking like a cross between grand i10 nios and santro where as back portion is similar to celerio. Still overall it looking better than previous generation of altos. Interior hasn't been designed tastefully. They could have done a far better job than this. I mean they should have lifted it easily from last gen or current gen japanese alto as dimensions wise it is similar to kei cars.

The Image quality is very shoddy given the fact that it’s an official announcement for the car !

It means that no matter what kind of an entry level customer you are, whatever be your taste (regarding the design of the vehicle) There is a Maruti product for you in the Entry level range.
I guess this also allows Maruti to push up the pricing for the next generation of S-presso (if any).

This car is a pocket rocket for the city commutes! I mean, just look at it!
Nimble: Check
Cute:Check
Fun to drive: Possibly
Pocket Friendly:Hope so
All rounder:For sure!
If this doesn't bring back the market share for Maruti, then I'd probably blame the Santro like front, the lack of safety and maybe the pricing(if overpriced). The Kwid is in trouble for sure!

The front looks like a straight lift off the Santro. And i agree with ZenMaster, this is just the practical form of the famous Steve Jobs quote "if you don't cannibalise yourself, someone else will". They are literally spamming the entry level segment with so many options that most buyers in that segment will end up with a Maruti anyway. Win-win.
