re: Next-gen Maruti Alto (Y0M) caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 3.99 lakh

Maruti will continue the discount policy with their new products to please Indian public. They have kept the scope for discount in K10 too. Maruti's strategy is exact opposite of other car makers like hyundai, kia, mahindra etc. which are known for creating introductory price hype and then they start inflating prices like crazy which is fundamentally wrong.

Re: Next-gen Maruti Alto (Y0M) caught testing in India

Interesting pricing.

The S-Presso top-end automatic at 5.99L is only 15,500 more than the Alto K10 top-end automatic at 5.83L.

For that small amount extra, buying the S-Presso would get one ESP, hill-hold, electrically adjustable ORVMs, a little more space, etc. Seems like a good deal on paper.

Looks like Maruti is expecting people to pay a premium for the Alto name and to NOT have the ugly front end and weird dashboard layout of the S-Presso.

Not to forget the Rs.35k cash discount on the S-presso and Celerio vxi or above variants. Those interested in the k10, would better wait a few months. There would be good amount of discount.

The fact is, we do not have many options at the bottom of the pyramid. This still makes a lot of sense for drivers just starting out and though its the most expensive alto, it still in a way is one of the cheapest automatics that will hold value (imp for the crowd that is resale value conscious).

The only direct rival to the new Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 is the Renault Kwid. However, its prices overlap with those of the S-Presso and the existing Alto 800.

Here's how it stacks up on the price graph:

FYI there are no discounts on S Presso AGS models, based on my recent interactions here in Pune.

Re: Next-gen Maruti Alto (Y0M) caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 3.99 lakh

Overall dimensions have been increased, so are the prices. Topend automatic comes to 7L onroad is hard to digest for an Alto. MSL design engineers are in deep sleep for quite sometime and this lame design in 2022 is simply unacceptable. As always, MSL projects fuel efficiency as the foremost USP and the same applies to this as well. Big grill on the front side is definitely a overdo for a car of this size and rear somewhat resembles the last Figo that Ford sold in the country.

Manual top model will be touching almost Rs 6 lakhs on road.
That's quite a bit of money. Considering there has not been a seismic shift in overall vehicle dimensions, features and powertrain.
Hope Maruti has upped its performance in crash safety and the new Alto picks up some more stars when tested by NCAP.

Re: Next-gen Maruti Alto (Y0M) caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 3.99 lakh

Clearly overpriced. Can't believe that Alto top end will cost 7+ lakhs on road. Car prices are rocketing like anything in recent time. Semiconductor issue in a way has benefited manufacturers as demand is more and supply is less. They are earning some fat profits.

I was thinking to buy one as second car for wife and city use, now Big NO. I will prefer to buy well maintained pre owned Honda City, i20 second gen, Swift, Jazz etc. within 5-6 lakhs. It will give me better car with more safety, more power, more space and more driving pleasure 😊

Re: Next-gen Maruti Alto (Y0M) caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 3.99 lakh

I don’t think comments on the price of this car are justified considering the lack of options in entry level segment. I feel the prices have increased across the board and eventually we will end up seeing EV being sold at similar price point.

I bought my top end k10 AMT 4 years ago for 5.1L OTR Bangalore and today the price seem to be crossing 7L. Who would have thought sub 4m cars selling for 15 L few years ago ?

Coming back to the car itself, it will definitely outsell the s-presso even though I am not happy with the boring Maruti designs.

Re: Next-gen Maruti Alto (Y0M) caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 3.99 lakh

Am I the only one thinking
- The pricing is Atrocious.
- The vehicles in advert used a bigger profile tires whereas the launched car has smaller ones.
- Why the FE was just 24.xx while Celerio & WagonR with the same engine has an ARAI figure of 25.xx? Is it because of lower profile tires on Alto? This one comes with just 145 section tires. The FE should be much higher considering its based on Hearttec.

Did they publish the weight of the car anywhere? I have some serious questions on the build quality of this new model.

I wouldn't be surprised to see huge discounts on Alto down the line. It just doesn't add up.

Few more interesting things in the specs/features:
- The S-Presso gets an idle start-stop system that the Alto K10 doesn't have. This mostly contributes to the slightly higher ARAI rated fuel efficiency.
- In the top variants, weirdly the cheaper Alto K10 gets 4 speakers while the S-Presso only gets 2.
- Brake Assist (BA) is present in the S-Presso but not in the Alto K10.
- The most curious difference is that (according to CarWale mobile at least), the Alto K10 gets hydraulic power steering while the S-Presso gets electric power steering (see below). Assuming it is not a typo, this is a very good thing for the Alto K10. The weird non-return-to-center steering seen in the S-Presso won't be soiling the driving experience in the Alto K10.
