Agreed on this, the Gen 1 Indian/Gen 5 JDM Alto are still the best looking of the bunch. The addition of the yellow over the indicators on the headlights on the Gen 1 WagonR looked horrifying but it looked great on the Alto.

We were a WagonR family back in the 2000's but many people on our road at that time in Bangalore had Alto's.

Hope they don't raise the GC and spoil the looks of it. I love the cute design. I will definitely go for this one for my own city runs if launched.

I would give it a thumbs up to this contraption (personal opinion), if it improves safety even marginally. If not, this looks like a sad spresso facelift.

Sorry guys. This is definitely not coming to India. This is only for Japan and is powered by R06 engine. The K10C and possibly F8D powered version ( I am not sure if it is upgradeable to BS6 and CAFE/RDE norms) would come to India in the new Alto.

New Alto sped again!

What I'm curious about is the fate of the F8D going forward. Does the Alto800 spec have sufficient customer base that will NOT spend little more for a K10? Would it make better economical sense for MSIL to finally shelve that eternally liked engine and standardize the K10 as the entry engine, that powers multiple cars viz. Celerio, WagonR, Spresso, Alto? Anyway with the dimensions being seen the new Alto seems to be growing into a tall-boy and slightly larger car. This can be the moment for the shift in engine?

Afterall the F8 basically powers just 1 car in the line-up. That in itself is a big oddity in MSIL's portfolio approach over last few decades. Reusing power-trains across multiple models is the mantra.

The company has extracted the max out of the F8D and at the same time refined it over the past decades. What they have now is a solid engine that hardly costs anything to develop and produce compared to the much complicated K10 engine. As long as they can have a platform that supports this engine, they will slog it and keep it for the entry level low cost offering which is currently the Alto. Using the K10 will push up costs. Even though this engine powers only one car in the line up, the volumes the car can do will still justify its use and production. Hence while the Alto might get the K10 option as usual for the higher end versions, it might still be the case that we see the F8D to keep the starting cost lower.

In addition to this, the ease of achieving BS6 compliance in petrol compared to a diesel engine is why this and the G12 engine in the Eeco still continue to run whereas the rest of the stable gets the K series. If the updation costs of an engine crosses a certain threshold, then it would make sense to rationalize the powertrain options. But that isnt the case here.

IMO it should be a move to K-Series and Heartect.
Makes more business sense and a seamless product lineup.
If the BNVSAP is updated and enforced, with all models being on the Heartect it will be a seamless experience as the changes could/should be easily implementable across the range.

Honestly I thought the Alto would be discontinued like the 800 and the new Celerio would replace it but the Celerio's positioning leaves that gap to be filled in by the new Alto.

Well proportioned for its segment.
IMO better than the current Alto 800 anyday in design and space with better ingress/egress.

Alto is one of the New launches planned by Maruti Suzuki for this year.

Now seen in new spy shots.

the camouflaged test mule bears a completely new design that was already anticipated in the automotive world. The spy pics reveal a completely new front design which seems to be inspired by the recently launched new Celerio hatchback. The smiling-fascia design is visible even through the camouflage along with the new set of headlights and a wide front grille embedded in the new front bumper cleanly.

The side profile of the test mule shows that the new-gen Alto will feature a big glass area which may translate into a more airy cabin experience. The overall design is definitely bigger than the current-generation Alto. The test mule was running on blacked-out steel rims which may be featured in the mid as well as base-variants once the car is launched. Apart from this, the tail-light design seems to be more stretched out now; as the hump in the camouflage over the rear-left fender suggests

The rear profile of the car indicates to us, that, the new-gen Alto will feature a completely redesigned rear as well. The rear-windshield glass appears to be bigger in dimensions, and so does the rear bumper. The boot lid is now more outer-side carved and the rear looks more uplifted overall as compared to the current-gen car. Yes, the tail-lights are new but suspect whether they'll be LED units or not.

A slight view of the dashboard also indicated to us that the upcoming Alto will get a reworked dashboard design with styling cues taken from cars like the S-Presso micro-SUV and the new Celerio as well

Small, high hatch with small wheels (probably 13 inches), roof reinforcement lines, taillights something between the Alto and Celerio, driving in tandem with both temporary registration plates and in the favorite MSIL colours(if you look at their ads, especially Alto) ?
I would say Bullseye for the new Alto :)
Shooting a commercial ?
