re: Next-gen Maruti Alto (Y0M) caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 3.99 lakh

New Maruti Alto K10 will coexist with the Alto 800.

Quote:
Maruti is reviving the Alto K10 in an all-new avatar.

It will be sold alongside the currently available Alto 800 with the 0.8-litre engine.

Recently spied new-gen Alto is the new K10 with the latest Maruti 1-litre DualJet petrol engine.

It will have larger proportions than Alto 800 and a more upmarket design too

re: Next-gen Maruti Alto (Y0M) caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 3.99 lakh

Is Maruti planning on revamping the models (and essentially the platforms) as per the guidelines of 6 airbags that is due to be implemented from October 1?

Post the announcement of these guidelines, Maruti has launched Baleno(and Glanza), Ertiga, XL6 and Brezza. Barring the single top end variant of the Brezza, none comply with these guidelines. Should we expect another series of launch (or facelift) of these models when these guidelines come into enforcement?

Pardon if I have missed something(extension in the enforcement of the guidelines).

The power steering unit of current Alto 800 returns to center as compared to Ignis that I've driven. We have to wait and see if this Alto K10 gets the same steering setup as that of Alto 800. Alto K10 in AMT is a great combination for local city commutes.

Have the local showrooms started taking bookings for this? Brother is looking to upgrade from his Maruti 800. And he wants to stick to a smaller car given the tight alleys that he has to visit of Old Ahmedabad.

re: Next-gen Maruti Alto (Y0M) caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 3.99 lakh

As an owner of the last Alto K10 AGS, I am happy to see this. And - this Alto K10 is the car that I hope will kill the ugly SPRESSO for good (no offence to owners, I bash the cars I own myself too ).

This looks better than the SPRESSO and the new CELERIO both IMO. Has excellent kit that people want. Has the gem of an engine in the K10 (for the intended purpose). If only it also got rounded fog lamp housings (at least dummies). That would have completed the package perfectly (no point expecting rear wiper in this segment anymore).

This can be the perfect 1st car for anyone upgrading from a scooter after years OR someone starting to drive for the first time in life. As usual - MSIL remains undisputed best in bringing the perfect entry level hatch.
(Edit - the wheels look a bit disproportionately small for the rest of the car. an upsize of the tyres should do well on this one. Something that owners should think about in budget planning before purchase perhaps if longer drives are on the cards.)

This looks super cool. This can sell like hot cakes in market. Maruti almost has no competition in this space and this car can create monopoly. I am eagerly waiting for this car. Hope they will price AMT aggressively, I am looking to buy one for my wife.

re: Next-gen Maruti Alto (Y0M) caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 3.99 lakh

Looks good, IMHO.
1. 14-inch wheels should fill the wheel well nicely and should improve the stance. Ditch any extra chrome and this one should look alright.
2. All-black interiors are nice and seem more spacious than the current gen. I like how the touchscreen is implemented within the dash area.
3. Gets a digital speedometer that looks like the same unit in S-presso but is conventionally located, which should appeal to all.
4. Doors and the air vents also look similar to the S-presso. The gear-lever reminds me of the Ashok Leyland buses from the last century.
6. The Suzuki symbol in the steering should have got chrome. Also can't see any steering-mounted controls in the images.
7. Power window switches are centrally located, just like the S-presso, but the hazard light switch is missing there. Not sure where it is placed.
8. Fan speed dial is replaced with some weird-looking mechanism possibly to accommodate the USB/AUX ports. IMHO, the no-nonsense rotary dial should have been there. Looks like it might be having two 12v sockets.
9. Hope they have sorted the suspension and steering this time. With the K10 engine on this tiny, lightweight body - performance should be great. Hope this also gets 3 stars GNCAP rating at least, like the S-presso.
10. Should do well, given there isn't much competition in this segment. Will cannibalize S-presso for sure.

Looks like a hunkered down version of the S-Presso. Not a bad looker. I don't believe in bashing cars calling them Tin Cans but Marutis and Hyundais are not really the last word when it comes to safety. Remains to be seen if Maruti has done anything to improve the structure/safety of the vehicles. Slightly wider tyres and stronger brakes will avoid cars from getting out of control on most occasions. A limited top speed of 120 Kmph will be another added layer of safety. Wishing MSIL a good innings on this next generation Alto

I know this post won't add any value and is a one-liner that will ask for an infraction. Fully understanding the risk, I can't hold myself back but say 'This looks like a squeezed Micra', which is not a bad thing though.

re: Next-gen Maruti Alto (Y0M) caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 3.99 lakh

I like the design language and the overall proportions of the new Alto. I owned an Alto LXi from 2006 to 2020 and used it for inter-city commute. Loved the ease of handling, peppy engine and low cost of maintenance and repair. Clocked over 1L kms over 13.5 years. My parents might be tempted to buy this car. My mother loved the Alto and wasn't too impressed (initially) with the Swift AMT.

The car which is going to feel the heat is clearly the recently launched Citroen C3. Let's wait for the price reveal in the coming few days.

It looks proportionate and can serve as a perfect city car with that AGS (AMT). As other members said, it will be suitable for people looking for their first car and want something below the Wagon-R. Also those looking for a second car for daily errands can go for it.

If you're an enthusiast looking for a city beater that is below the WagonR/i10/Tiago but above the Alto 800 and horrendous S-Presso then this is seems perfect.

I'd still argue that the 1st gen Alto K10 (and the first gen Alto in general) is still the best looking one, this new one is a pretty close second and looks much better than the Gen 2 Alto K10. It's definitely better than I expected.
