Next-gen Maruti Alto (Y0M) caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 3.99 lakh

Mod Note: Our Maruti Alto K10 Review has been taken live at this link. Please continue the discussion over on the new thread. Thanks!

Scoop! Next-gen Maruti Alto (Y0M) launch pushed to mid-2022

It’s no longer a secret that Maruti Suzuki is working on the next-generation Maruti Alto (codenamed: Y0M). We have seen multiple test mules of the car, which suggests that the car’s development is in its advanced stages.

In fact, the new Alto was supposed to be launched in 2021. However, we have been told that it has now been pushed to mid-2022. While we don’t know the exact reason for the delay, the current Covid-19 situation in the country may have forced Maruti to reschedule the launch.

Spy images suggest that the new Alto is likely to retain its overall shape with short overhangs at the front and rear. It is expected to get a redesigned front fascia and new tail lamp clusters with the rear hatch release positioned in the centre.

At present, the Alto is offered with a 796cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine that makes 47 BHP and 69 Nm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. It also comes with a factory-fitted CNG kit. Technical details of the Y0M are still unknown.

Thanks to the Team-BHP fan (he prefers to remain anonymous) who sent this information in. Heartfelt gratitude for sharing it with other enthusiasts via this Team-BHP share page!

It's Gaadiwaadi. They released edited pictures of Ciaz to make it look like a Toyota car. Also, if I am not wrong, they added a Toyota logo on a Maruti electric test car and made an article on it. (I could be wrong on this one)
In short, definitely not the most reliable source.

Wow!! Tastefully done grill in that spy shot.
(PS : I am not talking about the car)

Why gaadiwadi is coming up with such clickbait articles? First the Ciaz scoop and now this.

re: Next-gen Maruti Alto (Y0M) caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 3.99 lakh

That could be the most useless Spy photo I've ever seen in my life. What does it even prove? That the next Alto might have a door?

Add to this, their photoshopped and fake images , these GaadiWaadi guys are getting more desperate each passing day.
Is it them doctoring the photo themselves or just a lack of scrutiny from their side in their desperation to get the clicks?

O.T:

It's not just them, even so-called news sites are doing the same.
You click a headline to read in detail about somethings only to find out that their "Article" is just a repition of their headline with 1or 2 extra sentences of no value. The "Read More" page has 5% content and 95% ads and links to other such useless pages.

Looks slightly bigger than the current-gen Alto.
Seems to be taller than it is wide - Another S-presso or is it just the angle of the photo?
Also seems to have a sloping roofline.
Ground clearance also looks a little better.

The concept car looks great though. Hope they don't make another S-presso out of it.
My guess would be that the overall shape and panel design would take inspiration from the yet-to-be-released Celerio.

Seems like Maruti has finally adopted the tallboy design of the Suzuki Alto for the Maruti Alto. Doesn't seem like a bad thing but I don't think the Alto customers would accept this sudden transition very quickly!

The first generation of Alto is still the best design for me. They have not been able to match that with any of their facelift versions. It was just a simple design and it was fun to drive.

Compact dimension is the USP of Alto. I own a new one and I can say that compactness is what I love in it in city usage. I drive it in corners where an autorickshaw can go. So I feel that Alto shouldn't be blown up in dimensions.

re: Next-gen Maruti Alto (Y0M) caught testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 3.99 lakh

Looking at the proportions, and slightly raised stance, can we say the Alto finally moved on to the heartect platform? If so then basically Ciaz, Brezza, Scross and Eeco are the only ones left with the older platform as Baleno is also in for a generation change. All cars moving onto the same platform makes sense from operations and financial perpective. Alto(next gen), Celerio(next gen), Spresso, Wagonr, Swift and Dzire complete the transition.
The current Alto surely required a generation change as it was already 9 years old and the current facelift with that big moustache like front looks hideous(no offence to any owners), but then it looks like Maruti is slowly and constantly diluting the essence of Alto. I badly miss the K10, Maruti should have bought a worthy successor to the K10. I personally know atleast 3 people in my friends and professional circles who had to book a WagonR just because they didn't want the Alto 800,the Alto K10 is unavailable and they hated the Spresso design.
Yet on a brighter side looking at the proportions lets hope that this Alto has better space inside, especially rear seats.
