Honda Jazz with the 1.5 P- perfect car for many families. It'll cannibalize the Honda City though.

Kia Carnival with a AWD and Body on frame with higher GC would have been a bigger hit. Such a competent vehicle that spoils everyone for space, I just cannot accept it monocoque and front wheel drive only, of course future upgrades can still have it.

The carnival showed that one does not need to lose respect if they have to sit in the 3rd row and still be left with tons of boot space to carry everything around. Even RWD would have won it.

Re: Cars that got almost everything right - if only

There are many

1. Nexon/XUV 3OO - Both have good diesel engines but dont get proper ATs (CVT/TC/DCT)

2. Kushaq - ATs dont get much needed 6 airbags at that price

3. Seltos/Creta - Has everything right except safety. Imagine 21-22L OTR car with barely 3 stars (Seltos)

4. Harrier - Got AT after a year but still no proven crash test rating while TaMo taking jibes at other manf and have 7-8L car making 4 stars in own stable. Also no optional AWD/4*4.. so much so for a pedigree thing

5. Octavia - No sunroof on a 35L car. Also over the years, Octavia has replaced Superb in pricing.. Loses on best in next segment tag now. It literally has no competition!!

For the Harrier, the biggest grouse is the lack of a Petrol engine. With the anti-diesel regulations in our country, especially in Delhi NCR, the Harrier hasn't been able to sell to its full potential. I've spoken to 5 people who bought either the Seltos, Creta or Hector, all of them said that they would have bought the Harrier if it had a petrol engine.

Mahindra Marazzo

Brilliant ride quality, more interior space than innova, dead silent cabin, good pricing, an overall brilliant car, but almost perfect.

Only if it had got the 2.2l m-Hawk, it would've been perfect and wouldn't have flopped. The 6 Speed torque converter AT would been the icing on the cake.

Toyota Etios

The car had absolutely amazing ride quality, reliable and fuel efficient diesel engine, brilliant petrol engine, acres of space and safety ratings which was the best amongst its competitors during its time. This are the basic things which each and every Indian car buyers want NOW. (Insisting on word 'now')

Sigh, the car lost on the looks, interior design and poor NVH. Arrow shaped Honda City, Fluidic Verna and frugal Ciaz seemed a better alternative than.

If Toyota relaunches Etios again with some tinkering on its looks, it can sell relatively well as awareness about safety and reliability is increasing amongst car buyers now.

Sadly Toyota lost interest in making sedans altogether after the Etios debacle. Yaris, Camry and even Corolla is following Etios's footsteps and are on the way out as well.

Re: Cars that got almost everything right - if only

I find many cars perfect, everything right in them. Only thing I find wrong in them is their price !

I am not kidding. Lot's of cars are really good and meets the requirement one is looking for but prices are just too much for what they offer.

Re: Cars that got almost everything right - if only

Simple answer -

The 1GD-FTV engine in the Innova Crysta BS4. That engine was a bomb, it blurred the fine line between SUVs and MUVs by a huge margin. Sadly, Toyota didn't bother to make the engine BS6 complaint for the Innova.

Although the 2.4 litre engine, that produces 150 HP, is no slouch and the power mode does brighten things up. The 2.8 mil would be missed by enthusiasts. Unfortunately, Toyota has given a statement that the 1GD-FTV wouldn't be returning to the Innova.

Thanks.

Re: Cars that got almost everything right - if only

Ford Figo S - TDCi (2017)

It has a powerful and eager TDCi engine and a slick-shifting gearbox. It strikes the perfect balance between practicality and performance. The Ford Figo S has its unique suspension modifications to increase handling. The front end incorporates a heftier anti-roll bar, which translates in a faster turn-in and good mechanical grip. The coil springs have been re-engineered to make the car more kittenish.

Everything right about the Figo S in numbers:
  1. 15" wheels with wider 195/55 profile tyres.
  2. ARAI Mileage 24.4kmpl
  3. Max Power (bhp@rpm): 98.96bhp@3750rpm
  4. Max Torque (Nm@rpm): 215Nm@1750-2500rpm

However, If it had a more welcoming cabin, it would have drawn a lot more customers. It is outdated and a major letdown when compared to the cabins offered by rivals. The infotainment display for SYNC is missing. Instead, you get an outdated system with ineffective buttons. "Ford's My Dock system" makes a valiant effort to make up for the loss.

For me the EcoSport has got everything right except for the badge, had it been Maruti EcoSport or Toyota EcoSport, it would have been a different story altogether.
Everything else, perfect.

For me it would be tata nano, perfect size, ample of space inside, only if it had a 3 cylinder engine coupled with a 5 speed manual transmission.

Re: Cars that got almost everything right - if only

Sad to see very few Sedans getting mentioned here (not sure whether this is because there are no good sedans which are up for sale now or there is a general shift in preferences of people).

Whenever someone who is out for shopping, he/she always looks for an all rounder. And
this thread gives enough indication of general trend within TBHP community also (I might be extrapolating too much).
People may say Sedans are FTD, but when it comes to buying decision, an all rounder almost always gets a first preference.

Re: Cars that got almost everything right - if only

XL6 for not being "XL7" as an option. The middle row bench seat option would have been wonderful.

Besides every Maruti Suzuki car coming with a CVT today would be so much of a better car with a better automatic transmission than on offer.
