Re: Honda to re-enter midsize SUV market

Honda has completely missed the boat here.
By the time they launch their product on the ground, the competition would have gone even further ahead of the game.

On the plus side, they have a good 1.5L petrol engine, which they can use to their advantage.
On the flip side, their 1.5L Diesel is mediocre, and can't hold a candle to Korean/Indian offerings.

Re: Honda to re-enter midsize SUV market

I feel Honda should have tried selling the HR-V through the CBU route and tested the waters. It's a competent product and if priced right, it maybe more than enough to attract some Seltos and Creta buyers. IMHO, the current strategy seems like a death plan for Honda India. By 2023, it will be too little too late.

Oh yes, you are right. I have associated the 1.2L petrol engine to sub 4m Marutis for so long, I forgot their 1.5L BS6 engines!

Re: Honda to re-enter midsize SUV market

Honda confirms India centric SUV; production may begin by 2023.

Quote:
the new product development is at a very early stage under codename 31XA.

It will be built on a completely new platform globally and will take on the likes of Hyundai Creta and sister-brand Kia’s Seltos in the mid-size SUV segment.

The Start of Production (SOP) for the upcoming SUV is scheduled for August 2023. However, while the company confirmed its foray into the segment, it was tight-lipped about the specifications and launch of the new product.

Re: Honda to re-enter midsize SUV market

That's 2 more years from now! Honda's very late to the party in my opinion and for the next 2 years, the brand has nothing except the City to keep things going. And even then they'll need
to shake things up like the XUV700 seems to be doing to get a piece of the pie. I'm not complaining anyway-more choices for us to choose from if we're in the market for a new car. Better late than never.

Re: Honda to re-enter midsize SUV market

Oh Honda. Have you heard about Electric car revolution going on currently throughout the world?

Honda will be taking time to develop a sub 4 meter platform till 2023 to accommodate an ICE, when other manufacturers would have already modified their platform to accommodate a battery.

Now I understand why they have kept there 2 wheeler tagline as - The Power of Dreams

Re: Honda to re-enter midsize SUV market

Honda was late to join the Diesel bandwagon and when they did, world moved towards Gasoline and EV. And now they are targeting 2023 launch when Kia and Hyundai would already raise their game with face lifts and new products!! Not to mentioned the pricing and features which they have to get right to gain significant market share!! What is your game plan Honda!!

Re: Honda to re-enter midsize SUV market

Wow, Honda! You are going to release a SUV in August 2023 to take on competitors from 2020?!! Quite the business strategy, huh!

Sorry for the sarcasm, but why does Honda need so long to introduce this new SUV when the City with which platform is shared is already in production here?

Re: Honda to re-enter midsize SUV market

Cars you see when you walk in to a Honda showroom are WR-V, Amaze, Jazz, and the City. All looks sad (even new city when you view it head on) and none of them are exciting design. Facelifted Amaze does not look good, WR-V does not have proper engine or transmission options, and Jazz design is already 6 years old. Civic is discontinued, no Accord, no CR-V and these are the face of Honda cars globally.

Mid 2023 is too late!

Re: Honda to re-enter midsize SUV market

Re-enter? Then what? Re-exit? Instead of ON and OFF, Honda should be serious and learn something from the competition. Even those who entered the market much later like Renault, KIA are doing better than it. Even the Chinese are catching up. Who on earth is running Honda in India?

Re: Honda to re-enter midsize SUV market

Are they really Japanese!! Last I heard, Japanese are quick and Swift. The new SUV should be in by second quarter of 2022 at any cost. Err. Lesser cost.

Can someone recommend me to be their product and pricing manager?

Re: Honda to re-enter midsize SUV market

Honda India has become the Internet Explorer of the Indian automobile industry. They have been milking the City and Amaze up till now and are finally up from their slumber. IMO 2023 is very long and till then we will have more mid-size SUVs in the market. Instead, Honda should have focused on relaunching the CR-V with an aggressive pricing as more and more people are embracing SUVs these days with not everyone needing a rugged hardcore SUV like say Fortuner. Other than that they could bring the Honda Passport and Pilot (both available in the U.S.) to our market. If people can buy Kia Carnival for space and comfort then definitely, there is a market for Pilot too.

Re: Honda to re-enter midsize SUV market

Go on Honda, better late than never!
I hope you price it right, and make it evoke the same emotions in us as did the 5th gen City. You've got fierce competition from the established Koreans, and possibly the German+Czech. However, you must truly fear the Indians (M&M+Tata) when you launch yours. Price it right, bolt it up sturdy and pack it with ventilated seats.
