re: Spotted: Toyota GR Yaris in India!

I have a naive query.
How are these cars maintained and serviced? Does Toyota India service international variants as well and source the necessary spares?

Modern petrol cars like this only require periodic oil and filter changes around 10k kms and transmission fluid changes around 30k kms, its very unlikely this car will be driven 10k kms unless the owner daily drives it extensively. In any case, it's not hard to carry a spare air and oil filter along just in case the owner decides to drive it for longer than expected.

Re: Spotted: Toyota GR Yaris in India!

Normally everyone brings in muscle cars or any 'special' cars like the Hummer or SIERRA through carnet. This pocket rocket looks like one of the unique Carnet imports to India in recent times.

Can anyone explain the process and expenses related to a carnet import? I couldn't find any proper answer for this online!

It will cost more than a lakh in fees just to apply for carnet entry. Shipping and handling costs extra. First you need to get permission and clearance from wherever you are shipping your car from. Then you need to deal with the Indian customs authorities. Imagine how painful that is going to be if you dont have the money or connections. Plus if you dont send the vehicle back after 12 months, it is considered as smuggled goods and will be confiscated Not for those with shallow pockets.

From what I read on @automobiliardent's instagram page, this is a carnet car. The enthusiast who's brought it here also has a Lotus Elise S from Dubai.

Thanks for the information windrider, it's not an easy job it seems.

I was thinking like if the total cost involved is "acceptable" for a common man, it would actually be good for someone like me who comes to India for a month or two every year to spend my yearly holidays. A decent sedan costs around 35k per month if I go for the rent option, so instead of that, bringing my own car while coming looks like a good option (if feasible). So spending around a lakh or two for someone who is on a 6-month vacation looks good. Isn't it?

Carnet fees depend on the country / FIA-recognised body that is issuing the CDP. In the US, it costs 55% of the blue book value as a deposit for a CDP to India to be issued. This is refundable. It will differ for the UAE, and for other countries. The entry into India is relatively painless, if you have a good customs agent. When I shipped my car, I didn't pay a single rupee in bribes and didn't have any 'connections' either.

Re: Spotted: Toyota GR Yaris in India!

The Toyota GR Yaris, a real rocket, has been discovered testing a new 8-speed automatic gearbox, as a complement to the six-speed manual, which is expected to arrive in 2024.

For now, it is a prototype that has faced only one of the planned races, because there will be many more

The developers have created a specific gear map, and gear ratio, to make the GR Yaris faster at the D position of the transmission.

That is just drool stuff. Almost like shots from a video game.

Happy. Not for the automatic transmission. But the fact that it means the GR Yaris will continue to be produced and not relegated to being a limited production model. Also, Toyota might be readying the transmission for the GR Corolla slated to launch this year. Mainly for the US market and also to broaden market appeal.

Re: Spotted: Toyota GR Yaris in India!

For Japan, the Toyota GR Yaris rumored to get 300 HP and 8-apeed auto in 2024 facelift.

Quote:
the baby GR hot hatch will arrive in early 2024 with the same power as America’s GR Corolla
Quote:
The main features are the increased engine power and the addition of an 8-speed AT. The straight-3, 1.6-liter turbo engine will be 272ps/37.7kgm, the same as the GR Corolla, from the current 304ps/37.7kgm.
