Woah this thing is an absolute pocket rocket!! 1.6L turbo petrol with an AWD + a manual gearbox, a blast to drive!

But alas, very unlikely Toyota will launch such a brilliant car in India . Since it isn’t camouflaged, or bearing any Temporary plate, must be a private import like you mentioned.

Looks like a UK import??

re: Spotted: Toyota GR Yaris in India!

Those wide rear wheel arches, the low carbon
roof, two door, manual, AWD and originally developed for rally but shelved, what's not to like in this? This is what wet dreams are made of.

Congrats to the Gentlemen who bought this! Wish to see this on the road one day!

It might even be passing through to nepal? I remember spotting other such beauties in Kolkata on trailers but they turned out to be headed to Nepal.

re: Spotted: Toyota GR Yaris in India!

Woah! That headline really shocked me as i thought that Toyota India was going to start importing this beast through the 2500 unit homologation free CBU route. But seems like that is not going to happen anytime soon and this is a private import

I had heard that this one was coming down on Carnet from Dubai to Mumbai. This just might be the car. Does look like an LHD from the second picture.

WOAH!!!!

Dream car on Indian soil. Hats off to the person who imported it. My kind of an enthusiast. Hope it's not just a temporary visitor on carnet.

Ofcourse, TKM even using the 2500/year quota for this car seems outrageous. They can't even bring sure shot sellers on the import quota.

3 door, 0-100 in sub-5secs, variable full time AWD, 6spd manual, handbrake that disengages the drivetrain for hooning around....

re: Spotted: Toyota GR Yaris in India!

The GR Yaris is priced around 30k Pounds in the UK. Skoda Octavia RS 245 was also priced similarly in the UK. Hence, if Toyota get the GR Yaris in India as a CBU then be ready for a price tag of aprox INR 40L (Ex-Showroom). Which in my opinion will be a decent price(Though not exactly affordable) for an 'CBU' GR Yaris. But we all know how opportunistically Toyota / Lexus price their CBU's in India. Here's an example;

This is how Lexus India had priced their LX 570 in 2018 v/s BMW India for their M5;

BMW F90 M5 US Price = Aprox U$ 102,600, India Price Aprox INR 1.4cr Ex-Showroom

Lexus LX 570 US Price = Aprox U$ 97,000, India Price Aprox INR 2.3cr Ex-Showroom

For me that is the hottest hot hatch available anywhere in this world today. Wish Toyota bring them to India at least on a limited run.

Its not just Toyota, the other brands have tried and failed. Even something as brilliant and cheap as Tiago JTP failed to get any traction and it cost less than a Swift! Do you think there are any reasonable volumes to be had for a hatch the size of Swift which costs 35 lakhs plus on road costs?

Import?
Transit?
One thing doesn't make sense in either case. Why the open trailer?

Usually they use these type of carriers.

Spotted: Toyota GR Yaris in India!-car-carrier.jpg

Let's say the economics doesn't warrant a full trailer for one car, but this? Open under the elements?
Somehow it just doesn't add up.

Saw this parked outside Anzen Kawasaki today (adjacent to Triumph dealership). Sports a Dubai plate.

re: Spotted: Toyota GR Yaris in India!

Owner owns a kawasaki dealership as far as I know and it's a carnet entry. So no duty is paid on the import. Will be out of country within 12 months of entry.

Epic car. Already being compared to the Evo 6.5 Tommi Makinen Edition, and seems to be the rightful heir to the throne. Whoever owns this sure has taste!

It's come in on carnet, which means that truck is only bringing it from the unloading port at JNPT/BPT/CSIA to the owner's home or office. For a short distance like that, a flatbed is the right choice.
