If you were given a choice to buy a vehicle of your choice, what would you buy??
Here are the conditions:
1. You live in India.
2. You are NOT a multi-multi-multi-millionaire [so no exotics like ferrari's lambo's]
3. You travel atleast 30 kms a day 6 days a week.
4. Its your choice whether to drive or be driven.
5. The roads are like Mumbai. Some good, some bad. Some empty, some badly jammed.
6. You have 30 lakhs ONLY to spend on the car. [ONLY 1 CAR. It can be Indian or imported. Like Sachin you are exempted from paying duty.]
Please be practical while making a choice. Do not just go for speed and performance.
For these conditions what would be YOUR ideal[along with the name of the car] choice :

V12,

You really made it very easy for me. I would import a prime RHD Mercedes-Benz 560SEL (W126 vintage) from the UK with full service history and records. Would have to be black with the same color glasses. Would cost me approximately 15,000 pounds (Rs. 12 lacs). Would spend another 3,000 pounds changing whatever mechanical bits need to be changed. Refurbish the interiors from an MB dealer there itself for another 2,000. Add a custom sound set-up with crossovers, amplifiers, subs and what have you.

I would still have enough money left for a lifetimes supply of fuel...and one of my top 3-ever cars.

I would go for a Merc E320CDI estate. Look good handles well, plenty of torque to waft me through traffic and mean perfomance for the highway. Easy to repair in India

Hey,

Interesting topic and conditions. Usually when i think about dreamcars it usually has the same conditions...except the one about being a multi multi multi millionaire ;-]

Id choose a Impreze WRX STi or a EVO6
-4 doors, not too cramped inside and not too large on the outside
-real performance
-built tough, good for indian conditions it would seem
-AWD awesome for the monsoon and un-metalled roads

Just waiting for an auspicious day now ;-]

Rehaan.

for me its difficult between a SUV and a 4 dr sedan. SUV to keep off those teeny weeny ricks. And to rule the road. 4 dr sedan for a smooth comfortable road.
Anyways, i'll be working 6 days a week and my office wouldnt be on any "Gilbert Hill". So my IDEAL car would be a S500. I have sat in this car only once and it was amazing.

Rehaan,

Daily driving of 30km in the EVO in Bombay would displace each and every bone of your body frame. You'd kick my butt in races...but still I wouldnt be the one going to the orthopedist every evening!!

Peugeot 106. Its small, cheap and fast and very nimble. If not that the old John Cooper Works Mini. Ideal for Mumbai roads and squeezing arnd thru by-lanes and stuff

So V12, you like the S500 from the W140 series. They are massive and superlative in every sense of the word. THe only problem was the early series uptil 1995 which had all sorts of electrical gremlins built into them.

An ideal car for me would be a 4 door saloon that's also very exciting to drive. A Jaguar XJR or a BMW M5 would do nicely. Both are very fast, comfortable, safe and goodlooking.

I would have to say either the M5, S55, CLS(soon to come), or the Old S the one V12 picked..

in order
-------
S55 - Sporty and couldnt be more luxurious

M5 - Sporty and tremendous ride

CLS - cant say, just can speculate it will be a combo a sports and lux.

Old S - Now thats a tank no one can come in front of..awesome looks, great comfort and a presence which is powerful

Actually Mini is a great idea, cute, powerful and something different..and definitely a plus being small and all..

but I would still like something big

I guess just me...
