BHPian ![]() | ![]() I too had spotted a black Yaris on the Rudrapur-Haldwani road on the way to Nainital in April 2022. I guess it's for component testing. However I do have a question: if Toyota is building a crossover based on the Yaris anyway, why test the Yaris here even for the powertrain, etc? Perhaps Toyota plans to use this powertrain in other models before the crossover's launch? |

| ![]() Spotted the same car today near IIT Delhi. It was parked by the side of road with blinkers on and a Camry with HR registration plates parked behind with blinkers on. Looked as if it had broken down. Didn't have my phone with me so couldn't click any pics. Why has it spend close to 1 year in and around Delhi only? If Toyota is using it for powertrain testing, then wouldn't changing locations and visiting different parts of country be better? |

BHPian ![]() | ![]() Spotted this Toyota Hatch which probably looks like the Yaris hatchback sold abroad. Looks like the Maruti Baleno and Hyundai i20 will get a strong competition soon. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

| ![]() Rear gives me Honda Brio vibes ![]() I mean, it doesn’t really go well with the overall design. It looks as if it was cut abruptly at the rear from the sedan after the designers thought a hatchback thought passed their mind! |

Infractions: 0/1 (5) | ![]() With Jazz/ Polo exiting segment & new i20 not performing as Elite i20 post launch, i feel there is a space for a new entrant. If they launch the right product mix (engine/ gearbox/ safety/ ride quality / mechanicals) there is an opportunity to serve a segment (Polo / Punto / Fabia / Jazz buyer) Now coming to the pics, the car looks sharp, will look more appealing in brighter colors (red / blue etc.), but the road presence is weak (Brio Vibes) they can work this cout with cladding / roof rails / large tyres etc. This segment has only seen exits and nothing exciting over last 5 year, I would love to see this on Indian roads |

| ![]() Looks like hybrid onslaught begins in India and Toyota and Honda are the crusaders. Maruti will ride along with Toyota hybrid tech. But for other brands, question 'kitna deti hai?' will become nightmare. Japs vs rest, grab your pop corn. |

| ![]() And if they add strong hybrid to the mix, it will be icing on the cake. |

| ![]() Is it normal for components testing using a surrogate vehicle to continue for such a long time? It seems this Yaris has been spotted doing the rounds for well over a year now. I only ask because at what point will the domestic market target vehicle (let's say the Yaris based crossover) be ready to use for road testing? Personally I'm a big fan of this particular Yaris whenever I see them on UK roads (doesn't even have to be the much sought after GR-Yaris). I wonder if there's a slim chance of this being launched in India in it's hybrid avatar - though I imagine the Yaris nameplate probably doesn't have great brand recall after the muted response to the sedan right? |
