You made a mistake there, This is the euro spec Yaris (Also sold in Japan). The US spec Yaris (rebadged Mazda 2) was discontinued last year

Toyota. Announce the car. Get the hybrid version tested by ARAI.

Open bookings, release the ARAI mileage figures. No need to announce pricing. Just see your showrooms get swarmed.

The Yaris Cross seems tailor made for our small car norms, but it is the DNGA based Toyota Raize/Daihatsu Rocky that the upcoming Creta rival will be based on.

But yes, probably component testing. Which kinda reveals that the hybrid version if launched will be the 1.5l version. Good if launched at Creta prices, but if they are trying to reach Harrier pricing, could have brought the 2.0l hybrid instead. Greedy much.

What I believe the Yaris is doing here is, like you said component testing for the Creta-rival which is going to be jointly made by both Toyota and Maruti-Suzuki and not for the Yaris Cross.
True. By the looks of it, the Camry would be the sole TNGA based car we maybe getting in India for a long time. Cliche cost prohibitive excuse.

Wish the Yaris was launched here with the whole range. From the base NA petrol with manual tranny to the Yaris GR and everything in between. But guess it would make more sense for Toyota to just bring the top end Hybrid model here with the glass roof et al minus the 4wd system on an experimental basis.

Why is this vehicle plying on Indian roads? Is Toyota even thinking of launching this vehicle when they could badge engineer Baleno, Ignis, Swift etc.

Re: Toyota Yaris hatchback spotted testing in Delhi

Certainly does not look like it's for lesser mortals like us since Toyota thinks we deserve only badge engineered models. Just see and forget.

Re: Toyota Yaris hatchback spotted testing in Delhi

Will this end up becoming the new Baleno or something? Considering its doing the rounds up North in MSIL territory any possibility of this becoming a Suzuki?

Re: Toyota Yaris hatchback spotted testing in Delhi

I don't think Toyota intends to launch this vehicle. None of the test mules that were spotted had camouflage(except for hiding the logo). So, it could be for component testing as Indian weather and road conditions are quite harsh or extreme.

Re: Toyota Yaris hatchback spotted testing in Delhi

As much as I would like to think that Toyota would launch the Yaris here, most probably this Yaris is doing the same duties as the CH-R that has been doing the rounds for the past half a decade.

Component testing.

Ok the test mule camouflaged in black is reminiscent of the Nissan Micra - strictly IMHO

Not a looker per-se!

Impossible. Thought they'd rebadge the Swift now and give it a funny, round and oily name.

Re: Toyota Yaris hatchback spotted testing in Delhi

Found this Toyota Yaris Hatchback near South Campus on Ring Road, Delhi last week. Could be possible Liva replacement?

Re: Toyota Yaris hatchback spotted testing in Delhi

I honestly feel like launching this Yaris would be a good move from Toyota. They ought to distinguish themselves from the rest and considering they have always enjoyed healthy sales of the Innova regardless of MPV market, Fortuner regardless of competition in the SUV and entry level luxury car segment, and even the Corolla and Camry regardless of poor sales of sedans world over, they ought to launch this hatchback also. At a premium is alright by me. They can distinguish themselves as the only trust worthy premium/semi-premium brand in our market and put the days of the etios, liva and glanza behind them and enjoy the reputation they seek.

Going by the prices of Camry Hybrid, I'm sure this will be priced over 20 lakhs purely for benefits arising from stellar fuel economy combined with Toyota reliability.
