Though no fan of the Logan, it would be premature to say that the Logan has flopped. Unlike MUL, other manufacturers have smaller capacities andcannot manage the market like MUL (which can switch production between models with a lower switchover time and cost). Maybe production is taking time to stabilise. I think we should wait for 2-3 months sales to pronounce any definite judgment.

Yes the title is misleading. May be the title can be changed to 2,786 Logans sold in May.. Over to Mods.

Also interesting to note many Tbhpians got the logan story completely wrong... and the Indian car buyer totally foxed Tbhp, once again.

hmmm. initially same feel was floating around when Verna was launched. But Verna is steadily and slowly making in roads with solid nos (looking at the last month's sales figures). Till today (read Post-SX4 launch ;-) ), Hyundai's dealers are not at all giving any discounts, even for upfront cash payment for CRDi. They are sure of its quality/performace and just a matter of time to catch up.

2786 for reno last month (considering the fact that production is not into full capacity yet and then its not even launched countrywide yet!) is not a bad no for an European origin model competing with likes of Citys/Suzukis/Hyundais in a very conservative market like India. So, I would say it is too premature to talk about flop or success. Lets wait for another 3 months if not 6 months and time will decide. For me, its just a matter of Rs.50k price cut across variants will make this a success.

Personally, even after those price cuts, Renault for me? ney...never...

It is too early to say if Logan is a success or a failure. Usually first few months of sales are not representative of success or failure. We need the sales to come to a steady state before conclusion. The same applies to not just Logan but Verna and now SX4.

I personally still think that it is going to be hard for Logan to take off. Logan is operating in VFM segment and Indigo is more VFM than Logan.

Not really...a lot us expressed our dislike for the Logan but predicted that it will still do well....due to FE, robustness etc.

Yes the logan was a slow starter but the title was intentionally named did not do well and not a flop, remember the logan was expected to set the sales charts on fire and because of its price tag[expected] outsell the NHC,fiesta etc.Atleast this was the expectation from the auto mags statenments and also from comments made by the mahindra's.

So far it has been able to eat into the indigo's sales[indigo sales down for may] but has it really been the revolution that everybody was talking about before the indian version price tag were fixed.

Would mahindra have not been able to achieve this kind of sales even if it had not been this so called cheap car,and bringing something more upmarket ?

I never heard of your first statement though! Logan was not at all pitted against NHC likes. It was touted to be positioned against Indigo but not at that price range. M&M's Scorpio's low end model is a lakh almost costlier than Safari LX TCIC. M&M wanted to compete but with some premium value in it.

This is what M&M wanted and if they can eat out somemore from Ford/NHC, its a bonus. From all the news and articles it was projected like it is Logan Vs Indigo.

Against NHC?! that too a Reno made car? an uphill task, friend!!! Reno never can compete with Honda in terms of ruggedness, refinement, practicality lastly but not least the Reliability! Even Suzuki's (SX4 against NHC in India) and Toyotas all over the world, sweating it out against Civic/Accord/CRV line ups. Read this article please :

Source: What makes some cars winners?

"...Do a quick survey of Honda's offerings in the Indian market. All four of them, the City, Civic, Accord and CR-V are leaders in their respective segments. Surprised? Don't be...."

If Logan can sell some decent nos, M&M should be happy esp after seeing what SX4 has done to the C Segment!

The installed capacity for logan is 50,000 cars / annum as of now ( say 4200 cars / month )

And they have sold 2700 , which is 64% of the installed capacity , when the car is not even launched in all its markets.
Do you still think it is not doing well ?

If the sales continue in the same trend , it is a succes IMO.

About waiting for 2 - 3 months , before decaring a product as a success or a failure, I agree 100%. Unfortunately , we did not follow this rule , when we declared logan a flop, even before deliveries started

p.s. purely my personal opinion .No offence meant to anyone,

Here is my salute to Logan "Thhuuueee"(Italian spiting sound)... I already said once in this post before but just for my satisfaction and to show all members how i feel..

But if these socialistic era nut case in the Mahindra factory get an idea to change the front grill to a buffed silver mesh or a chrome mesh grill with a sporty look it may get off a bit but i wish they dont do it and the CAR goes down the drain with Anand Mahindra sitting in the front seat and that French guy locked up in the boot safely.

We still have to bear in mind that Logan D is primarily targeted for taxi operators. So it might not really be the aam aadmi buying the Logan, but the taxi operators buying. It will be interesting to see the breakup of taxi bookings to junta bookings ratio. I think it will be around the 80-20 mark. All the Logans I have seen in Bangalore so far have been Taxis. One has to say that the Logan D is terrific value from a taxi stand point. Space is the primary factor for taxis.

If this is true, its a sad day for Indian automobile enthusiasts. Looks like we are going to get sub-standard stuff for years to come.
