Make Way for the Hybrids, there is no better time than this. Honda begins the Hybrid onslaught in India. Toyota/Maruti to follow next.

Honda City Hybrid India Debut Date 14th April.

Honda City Hybrid will be one of the most fuel-efficient cars in India with figures around 27 kmpl

The car will officially be known as the Honda City e:HEV. Sales likely to start from May.

With this launch, Honda is likely to retain its Crown as the King of sedans, with no new launches affecting its sales.

The newly launched Sedan sales will be affected?

I have prebooked Virtus GT and I am pretty sure this won't let me cancel my booking given my current 11 year companion Polo but will be surely one of the better alternatives.

Expected prices would be same as 1.5 TSI DSG Slavia or even more considering its a proper hybrid?

re: Honda City Hybrid | Unveiled on 14th April 2022

The Civic Hybrid was also once present in our market. It was a dud. I hope Honda has learnt it's lesson and prices the City appropriately. I believe it will start on road min 18 to 20 L which moves it dangerously into the D segment territory, a segment which is almost non existent.

The success will surely be dependent on the pricing. A 10% premium on the ICE model will see it selling well given the way fuel prices are rising.

re: Honda City Hybrid | Unveiled on 14th April 2022

Will we have an official Team-BHP review for the City Hybrid? There was only a quick drive by GTO for the ICE versions. Given that Honda sent out media cars even for less relevant ones like the Amaze facelift, I hope they have full-fledged media drives this time around.

Glad to see Honda bring new safety technologies like AEB to the segment. Hopefully it detects pedestrians too and has been calibrated well for India. I don't expect it to detect motorcyclists but it would be smashing if it did; the new ASEAN-market Civic does.

This car should bring back the lost glory of the dying sedan market, hope Honda won't kill it with the pricing and price it well against the Slavia and Virtus.
I have also pre-booked the Virtus DSG and it's all going back to square one (head over heart or heart over head)

Let the proper hybrids become mainstream!!!

Just one word, Honda. Pricing. Do it properly.

OTR price it a premium of 2.5-3 lakhs over the OTR pricing of the equivalent petrol (not diesel. And see the sales chart on fire.

Or see Civic hybrid 2.0 for yourself, Honda

re: Honda City Hybrid | Unveiled on 14th April 2022

Okay this looks like something serious. If I get this car for the same price as the Slavia 1.5 DSG, then I would have to think again on my decision. A hybrid powertrain + all the additional features would mostly convince me to give up on the Slavia. The only compromise would be poorer performance and highway ride. But the benefits outweigh the risks in this case.

re: Honda City Hybrid | Unveiled on 14th April 2022

I was on the cusp of booking the ZX MT this week, but this news hit out of the blue and I feel now that I should wait it out for the Hybrid. what do you folks think ?

No updates on Honda India website that I could find though and a tweet to Honda India was reverted with a standard reply "Keep an eye on our social media channels"

Regards

According to Rajesh Goel, Senior Vice President and Director, Sales & Marketing, Honda Cars India, the City Hybrid will now be launched in the next financial year.

The City Hybrid will be Honda's first mainstream hybrid offering in India. It uses a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 97 BHP and 127 Nm and two electric motors. One of the electric motors is integrated with the petrol engine and acts as an integrated starter generator (ISG). The other powers the front wheels via a single, fixed-ratio gearbox. It generates 108 BHP and 253 Nm.

Honda has also confirmed a mid-size SUV for the Indian market. The new model (codenamed: 31XA) is already under development and could be built on a completely new platform.

When I went to check out the City, the dealer SE told me to wait, as the Hybrid City is likely to be launched next month. This is exciting news from Honda and it will surely charge up the mid-size sedan market. Has anyone else heard anything about this launch?

re: Honda City Hybrid | Unveiled on 14th April 2022

Hi guys. I want to introduce a new perspective in this discussion.I gather from various posts on this forum and elsewhere on the internet that there is a growing demand of automatic cars due to rising traffic conditions. Hybrids cars can be a boon in these situations as they offer pure electric driveability in city conditions thereby significantly reducing fuel consumption. But there smaller towns in India, like mine, where the traffic is scare, bumper to bumper traffic is non existent and average speeds are above 30kmph or so. People living in Industrial townships may be able to relate to this or others whose daily path to work is mostly traffic free. For these conditions, is a normal IC engine more suitable as it avoids the complexity of Hybrid and battery replacement cost? More so, I am sure that the hybrids would eventually kill diesels in personal cars so is this the last opportunity to get that torquey oil burner?

Like you rightly said, D segment is today largely inexistent, however, the only D segment car today starts at a whopping 31.5 L OTR Pune. Heck even the slavia 1.5 is breaching the 21 L mark. A 18-20L OTR for a proper hybrid sedan is sweet pricing imo.
