re: Honda City Hybrid | Unveiled on 14th April 2022

Finally, we have a product that was long due from the Honda lineup. I don't think we will be getting the RS trim at launch. The reason is RS is another sportier trim that should (ideally) sit over ZX. As per the rumours, the eHEV will be a single trim model. Since Honda is flaunting the ZX moniker in the teasers, it is safe to believe that RS will not be offered. The primary reason can be the cost as RS is a better product with sportier all black interiors, soft-touch plastics and contrasting stitches.

I expect that the new trim ZX eHEV will be launched at 17-18 lakhs ex-showroom price.

The City hybrid will have the Honda Sensing technology (ADAS)as standard.

It does have 6 functions like auto high beam assist, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, Adaptive CC, front collision warning and emergency braking.

In addition the Hybrid will have electronic parking brake, all 4 disc brakes etc.

And Honda being Honda, they may not be aggressive with marketing as usual.

Yes. The Hybrid won't be the RS trim as sold elsewhere, instead it will be based
on the ZX Trim of City.
But the interiors will be Black and Ivory instead of beige.
And definitely the spare tyre will be a space saver or God forbid a puncture kit.

If they dare to launch it with a puncture kit it'll be a flop before launch. No repair kit would work when one of the tyres sidewall gets cracked on a remote highway. A spare tyre is a must for any car in India.

I feel Honda should launch this engine across all variants of the City. This will definitely increase the desirability of the product. They could also introduce this system in WRV which are losing steam.

In terms of variants, the new Honda City e:HEV hybrid variant will be offered in two variants including V (i-MMD) and ZX (i-MMD). The latter will also come equipped with the signature Honda Sensing technology.

How credible is the above information? If Honda is targeting only 300 units of Hybrid then it doesn't make any sense to have it with base V- trim isn't it? On the flip side if they launch it with lower variants then we could see the inception of a mass-market hybrid car that too a sedan

A media report does suggest that hybrid will be launched in V variant also.

This one is going to be a FE machine behaving like a true EV that does its job perfectly well in start-stop traffic while the 1.5 engine does the heavy lift at high speeds.
It will be the first mass market hybrid sedan with ADAS features "Honda Sensing" to go on sale in India and at times when fuel prices are sky rocketing Honda is launching its favorite baby on Indian roads with an all electric version.

These pictures clearly show the ADAS controls, boot space(410 reduced boot), battery placement and engine bay.

Instead of WRV, I'm eagerly waiting for them to launch a new SUV, perhaps even hoping for HRV, which already has Hybrid tech in EU. Hybrid tech is definitely an easier way to transition to EV's, but the taxation part is still something which I need more clarification, specifically the GST part.

the City Hybrid also comes with Honda’s driver assistance systems (ADAS) known as Honda Sensing, and this will be on the car we get in India too.

Post 120kph, Honda actually allows the engine to power the front wheels. This is done by closing a clutch and using a single gear ratio.

India-spec Honda City Hybrid Specifications Revealed Ahead Of Launch

The City hybrid will be offered in two trims: V and ZX. The top-spec ZX will also get ‘Sensing’ or Honda-speak for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

Quote:
Honda debuted the City Hybrid in Thailand in late 2020.

India-spec model will be mechanically identical and based on the top-spec ZX variant.

It will also be offered with the option of Honda’s ADAS tech called Honda Sensing.

The 1.5-litre petrol engine output is rated at 98PS and the electric motor at 109PS.

The hybrid variants are heavier by over 100kg yet will be far more fuel efficient than the regular City
Quote:
the City Hybrid is expected to return around 30kmpl
Quote:
Honda is likely to offer the sportier RS version as an add-on package, albeit without the RS badging. So it will get minor sportier embellishments like a blacked-out grille, ORVMs, rear spoiler, and red highlights on the inside

The City Hybrid is expected to attract a premium of around Rs 2.5 lakh over the corresponding petrol-automatic variant.
Expected to be priced ~ Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom).

If that pricing is going to be true then guess who is going to bid the Slavia booking goodbye

Depends, from performance perspective I am very confident Slavia 1.5 will be superior to City hybrid. So that segment of people, definitely me if in the market, would stick to Slavia. The Autocar review doesnt call the perfomance as a high point, even in the RS version.
But someone for high tech and efficiency, City hybrid definitely make sense.

So though these 2 might be priced similar, I strongly feel the customers will be different. Obviously there will be cross shopping between 2.

But what's really exciting is, suddently there is a shift and focus on sedan segment. Slavia, City and VW Virtus together will definitely take some numbers from CSUVs.
