Yes, it is in fact from a dealer in Pala a small town in Kerala. The screengrab which I posted earlier is a part of a bigger presentation that may or may not have information about the base variant. Even I am feeling that they will not launch the base variant now. Hope to get answers soon.

The booking was made in a small town in Kerala. They have taken the booking for the regular Honda City ZX but promised to convert it to the eHEV variant once the car is launched. As I said earlier the chances of us seeing the V variant tomorrow are scarce.

Visited Deccan Honda Dhankawdi- Pune for braking issue of my 2014 City. Enquired about today’s launch.
The showroom guys were quite excited and had no idea about pricing. The guy told me they want it to be 1.5-2L above top end. Also said Honda might take it above 20L ex showroom making it around 22-22.5 L on road.

Let’s see if Honda surprises today or not.

Me thinks - post the initial euphoria of launching a hybrid in the sub-20lakh segment - couple of factors will determine the success (or failure) of City Hybrid.

1). Cannibalization vis-a-vis petrol City prices - Top end petrol City is priced 15.xx lakhs. If Honda gets too greedy and prices the hybrid at an uncomfortable premium, then it loses the impact
2). Warranty on the hybrid warranty - given that the Camry offers ~8 yr/150,000 km warranty on its hybrid battery, Honda also needs to provide assurance with a similar warranty

26.5 kmpl is the efficiency figure claimed by Honda. I was expecting more. Plus most driving on highways in India would be between 80kmph and 120kmph meaning that it stays in engine mode only.

Top speed of 176 kmph sounds very less for a sedan.

As mentioned previously this is more about efficiency and high tech than performance. Not mentioning 0 to 100 timing also indicates that. So definitely going to be a good city car, and even if one get 20 kmpl in the city, it is great numbers.

Guess they want to see the market response first and then decide the premium over regular city, at which they need to price.

Looks pretty neat. The USP is going to be the extraordinary mileage this machine is capable of. Like any other full hybrid, the in city mileage might turn out to be better than high speed highway mileage. With the ARAI rating of 26.5 km/l, i won't be surprised if the hybrid city delivers more than 20km/l range within the city traffic. Wish they had brought in the RS exteriors without those large chrome bits. Price it well and this is going to be a favourite in this segment, however small it is.

More than the highest number, it is the average fuel economy that will be the highlight with City. I am expecting 20 kmpl in city traffic itself which is like almost 75% higher than what Petrol NA engines would deliver in urban conditions. Autocar India recorded 17.5 kmpl for Accord Hybrid in city traffic which was the highest for any car in the country. And Accord is a far more powerful car in comparison.

Someone doing 70% city drive and 30 % highway drive will see the difference.
