Check out the related thread : GTO (Why the heck will Maruti-Suzuki not fix its defective & dangerous steering behaviour?).

TECT=Total Effective Control Tech, Heartect is a platform which complies to TECT. Current Baleno was also Suzuki TECT compliant.

re: 2022 Maruti-Suzuki Baleno, now launched at Rs. 6.35 lakh

Hi,

As per the leaked Brochure the boot space is 319, whereas the 1st generation Baleno had a boot space of 339. A difference of 20 L. It may not practically affect but yes a notable change in boot space on the spec sheet.

The kerb weight has increased considerably which means they have used thicker steel.

Interesting to see changes in the dimensions. As per brochures, the car is now 5mm shorter in length, 10mm lower in height, the bootspace has been decreased (318L from earlier car's 339L) and the weight has gone up drastically (from 865-935kg to 920-960kgs). Now let's hope Maruti has tuned this non-SHVS K12N differently as the old Baleno's Dualjet SHVS was not particularly quick (Swift Dualjet is 2 second quicker than old Baleno Dualjet as per Autocar India)

What also feels nice is that ESP and Hill Hold are available on the MT variants too (although I would have liked it better if the Zeta MT variant also got these features). That said, with safety features like a 360 degree camera, Heads-up display, 6 airbags, ESP and Hill Hold being offered, the Baleno will have all the rights to be called the SAFEST in it's segment if it gets a decent score at the Global NCAP crash test (Altroz, the safest in Passive Safety has zero active safety!)

While we are talking about weight and safety, it's commendable how Maruti chooses to be transparent about the Heartect chassis and weight of their cars despite endless trolls that troll them day and night for lightweight cars, especially when others like Hyundai-Kia and many others hide every information related to platforms and weight etc. and get away with it.

Finally, the extremely good feature distribution, a good design and active safety make me eagerly await........ the 2022 Glanza (That Camry-ish front bumper had me drooling! )

I guess Brake Assist is a new addition in Baleno.
IIRC even the Brezza doesn't get it while the S-Cross gets it.

I think the Baleno, Ignis , S Cross are shown as having the Suzuki TECT architecture. The others are shown as having HEARTECT.

It's like Honda G-CON vs ACE: one is the philosophy (TECT), the other is the architecture (Heartect).

I don't think statements about the Heartect platform 'as a whole' having poor crashworthiness are justified. You could have a perfectly good platform, cut costs for some particular model by cold-stamping members intended to be hot-formed, or reducing the density, time or discharge voltage of spot welds, and ruin the frontal crash performance. In some cases the spot-welding tooling at the plant could be poorly maintained.

We don't know how well even the old Indian Baleno would do in the GNCAP frontal crash, and we never will. But even assuming that the perception is based on the Latin NCAP test of the LHD car, the issues of that car in the test were not structural. There were a lot of issues that caused the car to lose points under the 2020 protocol but the car would have been a zero star car even in the 2016 protocol. The issue would have been life-threatening injuries to the chest in the side impact, probably because of the lack of side airbags (the penetration of the MDB was acceptable) and a small penalty for door opening.

re: 2022 Maruti-Suzuki Baleno, now launched at Rs. 6.35 lakh

Now the perception is that new Baleno is safer than old because it weighs 60k more, and some people assume that thicker body panels are the reason. Let's wait for the launch. Even if the thicker panels don't add much to the safety, I like "tough as nail" body on cars. Dents, scratches and rattles irritates me the most. I know I need to be a better driver for a scratch-free car, but such thicker panels has to be there in all cars starting from Alto. Especially in Swift.

A lot of new techs are added now in Baleno. Unexpected from Maruti but true.

Either there are some fresh minds in Maruti or some fresh blood is injected into the ones at Maruti. Or did Toyota tell them that "you need to create atleast a perception of safety, otherwise even if you can sell your cars in India, we can't sell it abroad"?

I never realized that declaring these is not mandatory. Hyundai stashes away these details away from its brochures also.

No Car Variant-wise Weights, Fuel efficiency or even the Boot space on the i20's brochure/web-site !
Heck, even the Altroz skimps to reveal their Fuel efficiency nos.

Can fellow BHPians pls point how can I source the official nos.?

The Baleno got a zero star due to the structuring of scoring of NCAP for Latin market. As per Latin NCAP, a single zero star in any of the sub heads leads to a zero overall. I guess issue was related to Child seats and Child occupant protection. The same logic is not applicable to Indian version of NCAP.
