Actually, if the design is ready (as is the case with Suzuki, since the cars produced elsewhere perform well in other NCAPs), the structure can be made stronger by hot-forming specific steel members and using a higher quality/quantity of spot-welds, which don't add much mass at all. A 'stronger' grade of steel is not necessarily heavier, it just costs more to produce. Case in point, the Suzuki Swift tested by Euro NCAP at ADAC (13.4/16 in slightly tougher frontal impact) had the same kerb weight as the Indian one tested by Global NCAP at ADAC (7.08/16 in frontal impact). Same reason I say we still don't know how the old Baleno would perform in 64km/h frontal impact. Could do very well, for all we know, or could pull off a Swift.

And yes, that does mean it's possible to have a 22km/l 5-star car and Maruti Suzuki knows how to make it.

Don't know if these are official pics or not, but observe the difference in the alloy sizes in the front three quarters and rear three quarters.

The larger alloys give a much more planted look to the car, but I don't think they will ever make it to production.

The red car in the first video seems to be a lower variant, and the blue one in the second one looks like the Alpha variant.

The lower ones seem to have a continous DRL Strip, as is present on the current gen car, and the top ones get a three-toothed Signature DRL.

Really bad thinking from Maruti for not giving UV Cut Glass in any other variant except the Alpha. India is hot everywhere for most of the year and not giving it as an option in any other variant is just being childish.

Curious to know, if glass breaks by mistake on non-top variant, would the SVC replace it with UV Cut glass as size and everything is same?

I checked with the ASS guys and they said "Cannot, since complicated electronics are involved". I asked "What kind of electronics?". They said "Confidential. Cannot reveal"

I hope we get UV cut glass in Glanza (Top-1 Trim) atleast

I believe it should be an easy upgrade. Just buy the Alpha trim UV cut glass from an MGP store and get it replaced outside, or through your MASS- if they agree to carry out this job.

No electronics are involved just a simple glass swap. Going by response of ASS they either don't want to or can't be bothered to. Get the part number of UV cut glass and it can be installed in any variant. Current gen also had UV cut in Top-1 trim and I had expected the same to continue.

They are smarter that you and me, you can try boodomo but it will be sold very costly. This is deliberately done so that people buy top variant. MASS will never upgrade a lower variant for you.

It's heart-rending to see the CVT being replaced by an AMT. Probably they took a leaf out of Tata's books who taught them a lesson or two on how to sell 15 lakhs plus cars with an AMT (Nexon!).
The only sign that Maruti had some tech with them, has been thrown out of the window now.

I just checked Boodmo. The Alpha/Zeta trim's UV cut glass of the outgoing model is available at roughly 8500 rupees for all 4 windows. The MGP store cannot refuse selling you these.

As for the cost factor, it totally depends on you whether you wish to spend this much amount to have a comparatively better driving experience during summers in our country where sun films are under a ban.
