The Astra in the pics here has been discontiued in Europe. It was different from the one sold in India. But I feel GM should re-launch the Euro Spec version here again. The Europeon spec Astra was the notchback version and GM can price it bang with the Hyundai Accent Viva. Needless to say the Astra is way ahead of the Viva.
with solid europeon build and design, superlative ride and handling the Astra can be the sporty car that the Viva only aspires to be. It can be powered by the 1.6 and 1.8 liter Optra engines. The interiors are also light years ahead of any modern Korean car. GM has already recovered the entire cost of the Astra project and can easily bring in the car here again presenting it as the sporty variant to the boring but value for money Optra.
Check out the pics

Finally the Interiors. Solidly built like any German car and xtremely stylish. The car maybe discontiued in Europe but the Interiors are still better than any current korean or Japanese car.

a little different, thats an under statement..cuz they look totaly different and pretty sure feel different too..this one is pretty horrific..in my opinion..

i loved the indian ver..solid and nicely shaped...had little problems, but which car at that time didnt..I am not up for this euro ver to be launched in india..

but if some new and nice design can be launched then thats good..and plus they cant use the same name and price the car ina different class like the acsent..i think thy cant, but they might..

anyhow..I personally dont like this one..

cheers..

I love the one in the 2nd pic. But i won't buy it......i'll instead have my Vtec turned into one of those.

They're good cars but i dunno if they'll click in India.

It'll all depend on how they price it and it's fuel efficiency.

Regards...

The car looks good and surely is has great build quality as well. Mabe a little competitive pricing would help. And no ways can a korean car be compared to a German beauty any day never...

Cheers

I second Dippys statement, This car is indeed a very handsome piece. Has that typically german aura about it

Looks good. "Car" magazine, UK gave a good review of this model when it was launched in 1998-99.

I still somehow like the Astra over the Optra. The Optra maybe good looking but I feel the rear is a bit heavy. If GM launched the notch back Astra it would be really great car to drive . I like the three door version

hey V12, GM can sell the Optra also along with the AStra. Apart from the different badging the 2 cars will be designed to deliver different things. ALso the optra's 1.8 ltr engine can be re-worked to deliver slightly higher power to give the AStra the sporty feel. Finally, honda is selling a much cheaper and much duller car and hasn't changed the name so i dont see any reason for Gm not to name the car Astra.
