Didn't know about this. I always thought HOG stood only for Harley Owners Group. I thought that's how the movie Wild Hogs got its name too. On a related note, I found the movie very much watchable despite a discouraging 5.8 rating on IMDB.

Adding a few more interesting brands to the list which no longer exist but manufactured few iconic vehicles:

1. Oldsmobile: Founded by one Ransom E. Olds in US. Bought in 1908 by GM & it eventually shutdown in 2004

2. De Tomaso: Founded by Argentinian Alejandro de Tomaso in Italy in 1928

Trivia: De Tomaso owned Maserati from 1978 till 1993 and launched popular models like Ghibli, The Quattroporte & Shamal

3. DeLorean: Founded by John DeLorean in 1975. Company survived for only 7 years.

Trivia: Their only production model DMC-12 was the one which featured as the time machine in "Back to the Future" film series

4. Austin: Marque British Brand founded in 1905 by Herbert Austin and eventually shut down in 1987 after multiple mergers & take-overs starting from 1952.

5. Jensen: Founded in Britain by brothers Alan & Richard Jensen

6. Horch: Luxury car brand founded by August Horch.

Trivia: August Horch was ousted from his company in 1909 and with his name already taken, he launched a new brand in 1932 with latin translation of his name. We call it "Audi" today

Thank you for the detailed post. However, the trivia bit about Ford inventing the assembly line is factually wrong. It was invented by Samuel Colt, more than 50 years before Henry Ford used this process.

Quoting from the below attached link -

Colt employed them to produce his revolvers in his enormous Hartford armory beginning in the 1850s. Using interchangeable parts, Colt’s armory could turn out 150 weapons per day by 1856. The mass production allowed Colt to make his weapons more affordable to gun-buyers settling the West.

Yes, you are right that Ford did not invent the "assembly line" although sometimes he is credited for this. I was referring to Ford's innovation of assembly line for making cars and not "assembly line" per se. Probably "innovated" would have been the right term that I should have used.
