Dear Fiat lover, If you notice Amit's signature, you would realise that he's a die hard palio fanatic.

To get the benefit from the excise cut.

To get a benefit of excise cut? Well... they should have thought about
1. The cut in the sales figures
2. Cut in the Customer satisfaction - the new 1.1 would only give a couple more per liter as compared to 1.2 nv.
3. FURTHER Cut in their image.

What I genuinely feel is that all FIAT brains are in designing the good quality engines & Designing good cars. There aren't (weren't) any brains assigned for studying the customer requirements.

Other than the MJD Fiat is also going to manufacture 1.2 & 1.4 litre Petrol engines locally. I think the 1.2L may get into the Palio Stile. It will get excise benfit also and will have sufficient power for the 1 ton Palio. This engine is going to go into Indica V3 as well.

Looks like your source was bang on!

Can you get realistic launch dates for the Linea / GP as well?

THE Palio MJD is launched & there are no signs of 1.1 getting a 16 Valve engine.

No 16v for palio stile 1.1 petrol

Recently had couple of mail exchanges with fiat. Here are few lines from them.
Quote:
Please note that the engine has been designed to give optimum power and best mileage. The Palio Stile gives a mileage of 15.5kmpl under standard test conditions. We would also like to clarify that we do not have any plans of launching 16V engine as of now.
