Nishant ; Focus is in a higher segment petted againts Civic , Corolla etc.
I don think we should compare Fiesta with Focus. The Fiesta was tailor made for Indian markets .

Ford has launched the Fiesta which slots between the mondeo and Ikon
Buddy, I am NOT comparing the Focus with the Fiesta. I am well aware of the Focus' capabilities. I was involved in its launch in the Philippines.

I merely responded to the point put across by Technocrat reg Fiesta's positioning between Mondeo and Ikon.

I am still curious why Ford has deliberately ignored Focus in India. It is something which would run off the shelves the day it is introduced (probably before that day also). IMHO, it kills the competition quite easily.
Maybe Ford is playing safe given their brand image in India (which ironically has improved post Fiesta!)

I doubt you can say goodbye to Honda & Maruti. Honda is not launching diesel in City because its quite happy selling Petrol version. Ford has to improve its ***. Ikon and Fiesta are both great cars. But Ford still has some homework to do. Fiesta should get the 1.6 l diesel soon.
Yes it really needs to improve upon After Sales and Service (A.S & S ).
And Fiesta will die soon if not given 1.6 diesel.

I have read in more than one magazine that the focus will be coming in 2008.
Although the talk is going on since more than half a decade since the inception of Focus ( which replaced Escort and Britain was not happy about it ), but now due to instant success of Civic, Ford is/might be looking forward to the launch. Foucs is really a very fun to drive car with an excellent chassis. It can certainly make a dent in Civic, Corolla and Octavia ( A4 ) segment with proper positioning ( read price ) and samrt powerplant choise( read great ford diesels ).

Obviously thats the only reason why the thread is revived. The question is - WHY are they not launching the Focus? Any solid logic/reasoning would be appreciated rather than stating what we already know!

@mhawk, they launched the Focus in Philippines in both MT and AT variants. Initial launch was only Petrol engine and diesel was supposed to come in only after successful testing of waters.

The engine was 1.8L DOHC, 16-Valve Duratec in the Sedan and extended hatch version. There was also a 4-speed Automatic/Electronic Sequential Sport Shift in the Sports version.

The diesel version was supposed to be launched in DOHC 16-Valve Duratorq TDCi 6-speed engine.

IMO, given the powerful engine, its responsiveness and torque is what makes the Focus comparable to Civic/Corolla. Fiesta was/is always a notch lower in class compared to the above. I guess it would compare well with Verna/City
