Slightly OT, but F1 cars use 100-110 Kg of fuel during a race which equates to about 140 Litres. And they also account for 3 extra laps:

1. From pits to the grid
2. Formation/warmup lap
3. Post race cooling down lap

Apart from these, they also need to be able to provide atleast 1 litre of fuel sample to FIA for testing post race.

Keeping these in mind, their Fuel efficiency comes to about 2.3 Kmpl rather than 3.2

There is no way to guess the fuel efficiency from these tests. Most probably Mahindra would have wanted to keep around 25 percent fuel before each refill. So it's likely that the 2 hour filling intervals would be conservative for the diesel.

Re: Mahindra XUV700 sets new 24-hour endurance record

I think the end result is to prove that vehicle mechanics, especially the critical components like engine, gearbox, wheel mechanics and overall body framework is able to handle sustained high-speed drive for a long duration at high geforce.

The goal cannot be to prove the fuel efficiency of the vehicle nor sustain changing dynamics like potholes or speed bumpers etc. No vehicle, not even defence vehicles can satisfy these.

In a way, it's good to see that Indian designed and manufactured vehicle is able to achieve this.

For consumers maybe during emergency situations, we might push our vehicles to sustained high speed drives on highways, still, even then not everyone will be able to do so nor the highway conditions will allow that.

It proves that this vehicle is reliable when needed. When I hit the highway my biggest worries are about the tyres, wheel bearings, shock absorbers, gearbox mechanism and engine cooling mechanisms.
