Earlier this month, Volvo launched mild-hybrid versions of the S90 and XC60. Now, the Swedish carmaker is planning to replace the XC90 2.0L Diesel with a Petrol mild-hybrid.



The mild-hybrid version of the XC90 is likely to be offered with a 2.0-litre petrol engine paired with a 48-volt hybrid system. A similar setup powers the S90 and XC60. This powertrain puts out 247 BHP and 350 Nm and comes paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The XC90 is also expected to get a few cosmetic updates including a revised grille featuring the new Volvo logo, tweaked front and rear bumpers and new alloy wheels. On the inside, the SUV will be equipped with an updated Android-based touchscreen infotainment system.

At present, the XC90 is available with a 2.0-litre diesel engine that produces 235 BHP and 480 Nm. This variant will be discontinued, post the launch of the petrol mild-hybrid version.

2021 Volvo XC90 mild-hybrid petrol launched in India, priced at Rs 89.90 lakh



It is powered by a 2-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with a 48V mild-hybrid tech which makes 300hp & 420Nm. It is mated to an 8-speed AT gearbox that distributes power to all four wheels.

The XC90 now comes loaded with new-age features

- an advanced air purifier
- heated front seats with massage function,
- a 19-speaker stereo system by Bowers and Wilkins,
- Interiors can be had in Maroon Brown and Amber upholstery.
- adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, a 360-degree camera, Air suspension.
- front and rear collision mitigation support, blind spot information with cross-traffic alert, and park assist.
- Available in four exterior colours namely Onyx Black, Denim Blue, Pine Grey, and White Pearl.

I don't think the XC90 gets the Android Automotive system.

4 cyl petrol for such a heavy suv? Sigh. Engine might be it's single biggest weak point.

Sure this generation of XC90 only gets an I-4 while the older XC90 got a V8 and couple of I-6 and I-5 Models but even the seemingly boring sounding I-4 has it's own party trick. The I-4 in the XC90 puts out 300hp because it's Twin-Charged aka it has both a Turbo charger and Supercharger.

Only car on the market to have both and possibly the cheapest way to say that you've got a supercharged car in India. This unique twin-charged engine is also one half of the Polestar 1 Hybrid GT/Supercar powertrain that Volvo used to sell overseas till the end of 2021 albeit in a slightly higher tune (300hp in the XC90 and 320hp in the Polestar 1).

He’s right though. It isn’t the preppiest car in its range, especially when even the base X5 for that price gets a sweet 6 cyl.

That said, the GLE300d still gets a crappier engine. Only thing worse than a 2.0 petrol in an SUV of this size is a 2.0 diesel

XC90 flagship SUV has been upgraded with the new Google-powered software. The new XC90 has been priced at Rs 94.90 lakh (ex-showroom), which means the prices have gone up by Rs 1 lakh over the previous model.

Volvo has, however, silently discontinued the 407hp, 2.0-litre plug-in hybrid petrol variant of the XC90, and now is only available with a 300hp, 2.0-litre mild-hybrid variant.

Sad they discontinued the plug-in hybrid really liked that engine.
Heard it gave astonishing fuel economy combined around 60 kmpl!

p.s the xc90 is almost 7 years old! looks really good still.
