re: 4th-Gen Hyundai Tucson spotted testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 27.70 lakh

Any info on whether this generation will be completely manufactured in India or will be a CKD unit like the previous generation?

This would be a low volume car (maybe 200-300 per month), so CKD would make logical sense.

Also, Autocar India said in march that it will be CKD: “Prices for the Tucson are expected to be between Rs 25 lakh-35 lakh, and it will come to India via the CKD route.”
https://www.autocarindia.com/car-new...n-india-423931

But then again, they have been insisting that it will be a 7-seater for years now only to say this month that it will be a 5-seater . So take it with a pinch of salt.

Maybe this confusion stems from the fact that there's SWB Tucson and LWB Tucson. Some insider may incorrectly assume that the LWB model is a 7-seater while the SWB is 5-seater.

re: 4th-Gen Hyundai Tucson spotted testing in India. EDIT: Launched at Rs. 27.70 lakh

I got a call from Hyundai as I had registered interest in Next Gen Tucson. However, the executive on other side was not committing anything & wanted me to buy current gen. I flatly refused to go by his advice as I believe Next Gen Tucson is weeks away & so is the Tata Safari I had booked.

Same with me. Got a call today from Hyundai and the person just hung up when I told that I was interested in the upcoming Tucson and not the current gen model.

Are they offering any enticing discounts on current gen Tucson? Flat 2-3 lakhs or something?

2-3 lakhs is too little discount for outgoing model at this stage. Moreover, availability of colour of preference is another issue.

Yes, the new Tucson is on its way! Here is the link...

Let's see if this can get better sales than the current-gen.

Contrary to many members highlighted recently, here in Bangalore they stopped booking of old model because it’s out of stock and mentioned the new model launch next month. Trident Hyundai Hosur road apparently don’t deal with premium models and I am expecting a call back from their head office at Sankey Tank for more details.

Yes, only select dealerships have access to sell the Tucson. So, incase the dealer doesn't have access, he has to buy one from other dealer and sell it.

Waiting for details from my dealer as mine is the 1st booking for the dealership.

It is more like select branches than dealers, same dealer still manages the booking centrally.

Which dealer if I may ask?

Not any different from many other posts/news in the forum in the past few weeks. Only difference I suppose is Cartoq seem to be sure about Tucson retaining the current engine options which if true, will be very disappointing to say the least. Hoping for the 1.6L turbo petrol at minimum if not the Hybrid.

Well the salesman I spoke to told that "we are exporting to other countries from our Chennai plant; hence this will be a manufactured in India car only." I'm not sure though, whether the export variants are CKD too.

If they are making it in India, may be we can expect aggressive pricing from Hyundai (Obvious right?)! Given that Alcazar and Tucson will share same petrol unit, a premium of 2-3 lakhs (current is at 6 lakhs premium due to higher taxes) on Alcazar will put Tuscon base model at 20L ex-sh.

It will help them disrupt 25 to 30 Lakhs on road price segment and drive volumes for this segment overall! People spending on Creta and Alcazar top model will be enticed to switch and at same time people looking at Jeep or Harrier or Hector will have worthy premium option.

Only negative could be, that if Hyundai makes it in India, the safety rating may not remain 5 star, just like Creta Seltos they may compromise on structure and built quality!

Cost cutting is feasible only when a decent volume of sale is expected. Otherwise it makes more sense to just sell CKD kits. Tucson might not be a profit machine for Hyundai, but certainly has a halo appeal. It stands out in a showroom full of Cretas, Venues and others. And there are some buyers who may want an upgraded ownership experience without having to shell out lacs of Rs for the European marques.
