Scoop! Mahindra XUV300 W6 variant loses features

Deleting certain features from variants has become a common practice these days. The latest model to lose some of its features is the Mahindra XUV300 W6.

Mahindra has removed the rear spoiler and black plastic cladding from the W6 variant. Inside, the SUV now misses out on features like a rear centre armrest, rear adjustable headrests and 60:40 split-folding rear seat. The W6 Diesel AMT seen in these images does not get a touchscreen infotainment system either.

Earlier this year, Mahindra had also deleted some features from the top-spec W8 (O) variant. It lost the 3-point seatbelt for the middle passenger and no longer comes with heated ORVMs.

While Mahindra's product team has been tinkering with the features' list, the carmaker has also been increasing the prices of its models. In fact, the on-road price of the W6 Diesel variant was hiked by Rs. 90,000 in May this year.

Re: Scoop! Mahindra XUV300 W6 variant loses features

This is just stupid cost-cutting and touchscreen must have been removed to use the chip somewhere else! I heard XUV700’s AX7L variant uses 170 chips in total. Mahindra must have deleted the touchscreen from the W6 variant to use the saved chips in the XUV700.

Re: Scoop! Mahindra XUV300 W6 variant loses features

I have a feeling that if the XUV700 and Thar numbers continue to sustain and grow (with the 5 door Thar also being readied), the 300 may become a casualty. Removing features is the first step to de-focus from the car.

Do these feature deletions ever come with a price decrease? Almost never, right?
We should treat this as a price increase - you are paying the same for less

The overall car configuration also goes to show market preferences. A car that doesn't have navigation equipment (touch-screen gone), loses the safety of adjustable head restraints at back. But - has a sun-roof still! Come-on people.

Well the other way to look at it is - "Had we not deleted the features - the car would have become further costlier. We are keeping it cheap for you."

Re: Scoop! Mahindra XUV300 W6 variant loses features

To some extent, infotainment system can be justified based on chip shortage. But it is not clear on what they will achieve by removing features like rear armrest or rear adjustable headrests. Ideally the prices should go down or not be increased any further going ahead, but I am sure that will not happen. Its a very good car but the pricing and feature deletions in lower / mid variants will phase it out of the current market.
