re: Shortage of smart cards from RTOs in some states

The safe keeping of the new RC paper is going to be a task.

Especially, while travelling to neighbouring states like Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, where the cops insist on showing the originals (Digi locker ones were not accepted for me) and this has happened with me a couple of times. Fortunately, I have the habit of carrying originals of the RC card and my Driving Licence while I am travelling out of City.

I really hope the govt atleast gives us an option to opt for a PVC card (similar to the one we get on the Aadhaar portal, pay ₹50 and get the pvc version and it's as good as the original).

I got my FC renewal done recently and received the flimsy piece of paper too. Hopefully I don't lose it before the next FC renewal in 2027, fingers crossed.

What I did was, keep this original paper at home and took a copy and left it in the glovebox and also updated my digilocker with the same. The only time I plan to carry the original will be when I am doing a trip.

Yes, impacted. My brother purchased a pre owned car and got the RC transferred. The new one is similar to pic above - paper printout.

I drove to Chennai twice this year via the Hosur highway. Never did I get asked for documents. The first time I was asked for e-pass. The second time, there was no checking. I did get pulled over on the Chennai airport road once, but again the cop did not ask for documents. He just wanted to know if I am coming from KA or using KA car in Chennai. I had my travel bags and toll SMS's as proof (although he did not ask) and was let off. All this, with my extremely limited knowledge of Tamil! Last I went to Ooty was 2021 Jan and at the border they asked me if I was carrying alcohol. No document checking. Oh, and I had to pay 20 bucks to enter Nilgiris!

Having said this, I carry all originals with me.

Regards,
Rohan

Getting it laminated would be good. Any rules against getting it laminated?

Generally, it's a bad idea to get original government documents laminated, BUT you can get a high-res colour photocopy on good paper and laminate that.

Suggest you to go to copier shops and get these laminated, like our marksheets. Paper copies will not outlast the car lifetime otherwise.

Really? I was planning to never carry originals - even driver's license.

Any one heard about new DL , are they also this piece of paper ?
That is even worse situation. Perhaps they have gone back to the DL Book they had earlier before the card came along.

I received my registration card/paper this week. Yes, it's a piece of paper, folded and put in a plastic cover. It's downright terrible and is bound to tear or crumple if not handled with care.

When was your registration? I got my car in Oct 2021 and yet to receive the RC. Is this normal for such a long wait? Not sure if I will be getting the card or paper format.

Maybe check with your Watchman / Building security if you live in a resident society. I got mine within 1 month of registration in Bangalore. It will come by India Post.

My car was registered in late December and I received it last week. The sales advisor told me that it usually takes a month but there have been delays lately.

My Bike was registered in October at KA 03. Not yet got the RC. On enquiring at the RTO got to know that the HSRP number plate was registered in late December in the RTO web site. Hence I need to check back in March if RC not arrived.
