Re: Skoda Slavia | A Close Look & Preview

The baby Octavia is here!!!

Likes
  • Mini Octavia Mk3
  • Practical GC, though stance is naturally awkward
  • Big bootspace
  • Not expecting soft touch and felt lined, so satisfied with interiors
  • Engine/ drivetrain options
  • Rear quarter glass

Dislikes
  • No Diesel. No Diesel. No Diesel
  • Was expecting a notchback/tailgate. Though the bootspace and shape makes up for it.
  • C'mon. Give a proper digital cockpit. If it cannot show maps, why do you need it? Just give analogue dials.

Doesn't the same hold true for the Slavia / Virtus? Both cars are nothing but Polo sedans. Just that the Rapid was based on the 5th generation Polo and the Virtus is on the 6th gen. And Slavia is Virtus wearing prettier make up!

Virtus with 4 airbags has been tested 5 stars by Latin NCAP. The only question mark is regarding the localization done by Skoda VW India in the name of MQB A0 IN.

And 1.5 TSi Style could be around ~17.5L OTR Chennai
No way Skoda is going to price it that cheap. Going by the past experiences and Kushaq pricing, the prices you mentioned will be the Ex-Showroom (instead of on-road).
Slavia style 1.0 TSi AT will compete against City ZX CVT. 1.5 TSi + DSG is on its own without any direct competition till/if Verna gets 1.4 GDI.

Skoda Slavia deliveries to begin in April 2022

Skoda unveiled the Slavia mid-sized sedan earlier this month. While bookings are already underway, the car is expected to be officially launched in March 2022, with deliveries starting in April.

The Slavia is based on the MQB A0 IN platform shared with the Kushaq. It comes with two engine options - a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that makes 113 BHP and 178 Nm and a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol motor producing 148 BHP and 250 Nm.

A 6-speed manual transmission is offered as standard with both engines. The former gets a 6-speed automatic option, while a 7-speed DSG is available with the 1.5L engine.

The Slavia is available in three trims - Active, Ambition and Style. The car comes equipped with a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 2-spoke steering wheel, an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, ventilated seats in the front, wireless charging and 6 airbags.

Re: Skoda Slavia | A Close Look & Preview

These previews are proving to be frustrating. What's the point of revealing a vehicle almost 6months before it can be delivered.

Yep. Even I'm having the same question. How much impact the localisation will have on the overall build quality and modifications.

Bhpian @Gannu_1 who knows Polo more than VW themselves can comment on mod friendliness for new cars based on MQB A0 IN platform.

Skoda has comprehensively beaten Tata in the duration from first preview/unveil to customer delivery commencement. Honestly this is such a loooong time. How do they expect to retain interest of potential customers?

This is to put off potential buyers (like some of us) entering Honda/Maruti/Hyundai showrooms for next few months !

Re: Skoda Slavia | A Close Look & Preview

Thanks Aditya for the detailed first impressions. Evidently, the driving experience has been positive so far as we saw from several YouTube videos. However, it lacks some killer differentiators (like ADAS etc.). So pricing will be crucial if it has any chance of being a runaway success, with so many SUVs around and the formidable Honda City. Not to forget, it starts with a handicap of the many negatives of the Kushak, in spite of otherwise being excellent. All the best to Skoda to become a success, and avoid the Ford story

Re: Skoda Slavia | A Close Look & Preview

Skoda is certainly putting in efforts which is evident with their recent launch Kushaq and the elegant looking Slavia. The only gripe that I have is - absence of their sweet TDI’s! I really wish they bring it back. This car will be a hit if there’s a diesel.

Re: Skoda Slavia | A Close Look & Preview

While design is always subjective, I really liked this one, few things which are working for them

1. Safety Focus :

As per reports, it has not just been tested for generic crash tests like the Indian homologation cycle and GNCAP, but they focused on their on internal stringiest safety test created by VW .

2. Engine Option:

I believe it was good to give choice for performance with 1.5 TSI engine. with Hyundai Verna diesel rocket downgraded from 126 BHP to 113 BHP, not a single Powerful diesel in that segment, no one offering Petrol turbo, this is good choice to have fun for sedan lovers.

Re: Skoda Slavia | A Close Look & Preview

The overseas VW Virtus is priced below its CSUV counterpart - the TCross. Going by this logic, Would it be fair to assume the Indian Slavia be priced lower than Kushaq?

Looks so much of Octavia rather than a new car. I am a huge fan of Gen1 Octavia RS, but this rendition can keep its own for sure.

Re: Skoda Slavia | A Close Look & Preview

My understanding is that 3-pot engines vibrate more than 4-pot engines.

New 3-pot car might vibrate less. But as the car ages
1. Will the increase in maintaining 3pot be relatively more than 4-pot? (other than may be need for less engine oil which is linear anyway)
2. Will the stance of Slavia (a sedan) vibrate less than a Kushaq (SUV)

I ask this because my friend had GrandI10 Diesel and about 65+k on the odo, the vibration is pronounced. Not sure if 3-pot + diesel is aging faster
