Hyundai plans Ai3 compact SUV to rival Tata Punch

According to a media report, Hyundai plans to enter the entry-level sub-4 metre SUV segment to compete with models like the Tata Punch.

The report states that Hyundai has internally approved funding for the new model (codenamed: Ai3). While details about the new 'CUV' are scarce, it is likely to arrive in 2023.

Now, Hyundai had revealed the Casper micro-SUV for the global markets in 2021. If we were to speculate, the Ai3 could be a heavily localized version of the Casper.

The Casper is designed to comply with the Gyeoncha (light car) regulations in the South Korean market. It is offered with two petrol engine options. These include an 85 BHP 1.0-litre naturally-aspirated engine and a more powerful 1.0-litre turbo-petrol unit churning out 99 BHP.

Oops!! Looks ugly but with Maruti like syndrome prevailing, it will be easily lapped up by a sizeable number of customers.

The way manufacturers are tagging everything as SUV to ensure success, no wonder one day Maruti will launch the Alto branding it as ATOM SUV and the normal Junta will be happy to own one and satisfy their want for a SUV.

Re: Hyundai plans Ai3 compact SUV to rival Tata Punch

Good Decision! By Hyundai. Already Tata Pushed Hyundai into 3rd place and occupied the 2nd place in December'21 Sales report. Hyundai needs to more focus on this launch against Tata Punch. Hyundai also more concentrate on Safety ratings. I believe most of the features carry forward from Nios.
I assume Powertrain should be
Petrol:
1.2L Kappa engine and 1.0L Turbo petrol with 100ps both manual and automatic transmission.
Diesel :
1.5 L 100ps or 1.2L 75ps both manual and automatic transmissions.

If Hyundai sets the price at the right level it will be another successful model from Hyundai otherwise it will cannibalize their own product nios,i20, and Aura.
