All-new Mercedes C-Class Estate spied in India

Mod Note: Our Mercedes C-Class Review has been taken live at this link. Please continue the discussion over on the new thread. Thanks!

The new C-Class estate was likely being used for component testing, however, only the sedan is expected to launch in India.

The equipment sitting on the co-driver’s seat suggests that this car is likely being used to test the new C-Class’ engines in Indian driving conditions. Globally, the C-Class gets electrified powertrains as standard with even entry-level models coming with 48V mild-hybrid tech, which could also come as standard on the India-spec model.

The vehicle could also be a test bed for the company’s latest software, ranging from the infotainment to driver assistance systems and more.

A quick check of the number plates reveals that this car is registered to Mercedes-Benz Research and Development, headquartered in Bengaluru.

Estates are amazingly practical cars. Too bad they are out of fashion.
Even the Hyundai i30 that is sold outside India would do well here IMHO.

Martin Schwenk, MD and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, told the company will bring the fifth-gen sedan “in 2022”. He mentioned that the C-Class will be a volume model and will drive the double-digit growth in the company’s overall sales numbers expected this year.
Quote:
“We had a very good run out of the existing C-Class,” commented Schwenk. With stocks of the outgoing model all but cleared out, the German marque is missing a key product in its portfolio. “We will not keep that gap for much longer,”

Re: All-new Mercedes C-Class Estate spied in India

I explored the current C before settling down with a 330i in Oct 2021. During my purchase cycle the MB SA told me that they expect the next gen to be launched between 55-60 ex show room making the OTR in Bangalore to be 70+. Thats a lot of money for a car which was available for around 40 lakhs a few years ago!

With the introductions of new entry level model in the A Class sedan (limousine they call ) and the new GLA now selling for 50 lakhs on-road (10 lakhs hogher than last gen car), all higher models in the Mercedes range have also moved up a price segment in last couple of years. Along with lower discounts, it is a sad time for the luxury car buyer indeed

I believe the C will be a bit bigger, and have more tech for sure. The interiors seem heavily inspired by the S Class, but still hard to fathom this price increase. Having said that, as long as people keep buying at this price, Merc will continue selling.
