Re: 2022 Toyota Camry launched at Rs. 41.70 lakh

We had a great first long drive on our new Camry Hybrid. We covered 1000+ kms in the last 3 days (Gurgaon - Amritsar).

The drive was very comfortable with linear acceleration, easy overtaking, super comfortable seats and enough space for luggage for 5 of us.

Hardly anything to complain about - it returned 19.1 kmpl over the 1000 kms journey which I felt was pretty awesome compared to my other Toyotas (Corolla Altis and Innova Crysta - both petrol)

Am I the only one who wants to see a drag race between A4 and Camry Hybrid?

Is there any change in Camry's product line. My cousin wanted to book one but the sales folks in Chennai were not sure about its availability. Toyota's e-booking option too shows as stock unavailable across all Tier 1 cities.

Camry’s sales figure has been decreasing for last 3-4 months. Any idea why this wonderful car is not getting enough buyers? Is it the price? I don’t see any other car replacing the Camry which lures the buyers.

I took a test drive of both the cars sometimes back. The acceleration in Camry is quite linear, may be because of its dimensions. It does not give a kick when you give it a race. You feel like you are putting some effort when accelerating it.

A4, on the other hand, has super smooth and peppy engine. It zooms off when given a slight race, feels like you are driving a racing car.

Yes agree, had driven almost all cars in the segment (A4, X1, A class etc). Agree, from a pure acceleration standpoint A4 was better. Camry on the other hand is more linear but having driven the Camry for 2 long highway rides of 1000 plus kms each, the Sport mode in the Camry was quite helpful and provided the sudden power bursts when needed, also overtaking was a breeze. The impact on mileage was pretty small between sport and normal mode atleast on the highway (18.1 kmpl vs 19.3 kmpl)

Re: 2022 Toyota Camry launched at Rs. 41.70 lakh

I am facing a minor issue in Camry. Sometimes on braking more than max regen at highway speeds (60kmph +) I hear a grinding noise from the front of the car. I am a sedated driver and try that my car always stops by using regen only. Got the car checked by Nandi Toyota Whitefield and they claimed nothing is wrong with car. Given the intermittent nature of the sound they asked to ignore it. This worries me slightly. Anyone else facing this issue?

Also the car has some minor scratches. When I enquired about Toyota’s paint correction they only recommended against it saying the car won’t get the same shine and 90% of scratches will go away with polishing. Has anyone tried repainting services on Camry?

Hybrid regenerative braking feels weird compared to conventional brakes. Perhaps you should request a test drive of another car to see if the behaviour is normal. You should also try to go along with a service tech for a long test drive to make him understand your complaints better. They tend brush off if you verbally describe some noise problem. Go with the service tech guy on a test drive (in your car and another car for comparison). Record video etc.

Paint correction: depends on how bad your scratches are. If you have the eye for detail, you will always find issues with repaint jobs. Colour match will be poor, orange peel effect will be there, etc. I try to retain factory original paint as much as possible and use polishing and touch up etc for minor scratches. If scratches bother you more than minor colour mismatch, you can opt for a repaint. I have accepted that minor scratches are part of life on our roads and learn to live with them. I used to get the scratches fixed immediately to keep the car in top condition but realised it’s not worth the energy I need to spare unless those scratches are too prominent. Camry looks very upmarket, few minor scratches won’t matter

This is the biggest problem hybrids face when the brakes don’t get used when driven sedately. Only the regen is used. The brake pads on these cars easily last over 1 lac km.

Hence it is important to press the brakes properly sometimes, like by coming to a stop from 60km/h to a standstill at say a traffic light, to make use of the wheel brakes. When this is not done you have rusty pads/ rotors.

Since this car does not use the wheel brakes very easily, the car washing guy needs to be told not to splash the wheels with water as most of these guys do every morning. If the car is used for sedate drives the brakes will definitely rust. Hope this helps. In all probabilities, you will just need to get a brake clean-up job at the dealer. Or 3-4 hard stops should solve the issue.

Re: 2022 Toyota Camry launched at Rs. 41.70 lakh

Just found a listing for Camry Hybrid in Seattle for ~32000 USD. That's roughly 3 times less than the OTR in India. Is it all taxes, or profiteering by Toyota, or both?

The reason has been beautifully explained by BHPian DicKy earlier in the thread and some points added by BHPian lamborghini as well.

Re: 2022 Toyota Camry launched at Rs. 41.70 lakh

Hello everyone. We took delivery of our Pearl white Camry today. This replaces our 2010 Toyota Corolla Altis petrol. Drove barely 6 kms (from dealership to our home), yet enjoyed every bit of the drive. Big thanks to the Bhpians for their valuable inputs on this thread as well as on the official review thread which helped us take a decision.

Re: 2022 Toyota Camry launched at Rs. 41.70 lakh

I called up multiple dealerships and enquired about Camry.
1.) MGF Toyota hinted towards facelift coming soon and claims Toyota has asked them to not take bookings of camry currently.
2.) Uttam Toyota claims a waiting of 5-6 months atleast.
3.) 36 Toyota claims 3 months waiting.

Does any one has any scoop on camry facelift launching soon?
