The Tiago CNG is priced form Rs 6.09 lakh while the Tigor CNG is priced from Rs 7.69 lakh.



First look at the Tiago iCNG and Tigor iCNG







Tata iCNG cars are based on the 1.2 litre Revotron engine, with maximum output standing at 73hp.



The CNG cars are roughly 100kg heavier than their petrol counterparts, so suspension has been retuned to accommodate this.



There is a strong focus on safety with Tata's new iCNG models.

In case a CNG leak is detected, the system automatically switches from CNG to petrol. The engine is also automatically turned off when the fuel cap is opened.



Tata's iCNG cars can be started in CNG mode, a segment first feature.

Fully-digital instrumentation with separate fuel gauges for CNG and petrol.

That seems to be good competitive pricing for Tiago.

The XT priced at 6.7 lakhs against Celerio VXi at 6.4 lakhs and Grand i10 NIOS Magna 7.07 lakhs is VERY VERY lucrative.

Tata seems to have gone a bit aggressive with XZ+ here at 7.53 lakhs against Grand i10 NIOS Sportz at 7.6 lakhs. Important to note that Celerio doesn't offer CNG in ZXi variant.

Also, none of the players here offer CNG with AMT.

Tiago CNG will be very good value for money especially with fuel prices shooting through the roof.

Along with this, they should have provided an automatic transmission which will make for a killer city car. I believe there will be enough buyers looking for CNG+auto combination

A Noob question. Why is that CNG tanks are always positioned in the boot ? why cannot they be positioned in the place of a Petrol fuel Tank ? Is there any technical reasoning behind this ?

This is going to hit Maruti where it hurts. Not only is Tata charging a fairly reasonable premium, they are also offering the CNG option on many models, including the top variant. Contrast this to the new Celerio who’s S-CNG variant is atrociously priced and available in only the mid trim.

If Tata launches an AMT equipped variants of these CNG cars as well, that will be a game changer.

Finally, someone launches CNG versions of the top-spec variants. It was surprising it took so long for any manufacturer to do this. It was almost like they were mocking the buyers: "If you can't afford to pay for petrol, you don't deserve a feature loaded car"

Now that diesel is almost absent in the sub-ten lakh segment and EVs with a practical range in this price bracket at least a couple of years away if not more, CNG is the only option for those who want to keep the running costs low. Great move by Tata, they surely know what the customer wants. I expect others to follow suit soon.

I also had the same question in mind but then I realised petrol tank is actually there and is used. So basically it is hybrid.

Request confirmation or clarification please.

Good to see more variants being offered for the CNG version but why can't we see a CNG being paired with an automatic transmission?

Have they used the newer composite type, light weight CNG tank ? AFAIK it also helps with slightly higher capacity offer the regular type.

The price difference between Tiago & Celerio is 18k, and as usual one gets better kit with Tiago.

For those wondering what stops other companies from offering CNG in higher variants, what happens is that the price differential with their entry variant products in the higher segment narrows sufficiently to confuse a buyer into choosing cars which aren't very profitable to the companies

A great move and aggressive pricing by TATA. Tata have given what Maruti deprived the customers of for all these years - a CNG car loaded with features (read CNG option across the model lineup).

Maruti had the first move advantage with launching a factory fitted CNG and have been enjoying success with that, specially with Wagon R and Celerio being used in Ola/Uber.

MS had the chance to change things with the new Celerio and previously with Wagon R. I doubt they were unaware of Tata's plans to launch CNG in higher trims. Yet they chose otherwise. They still have a chance with the Brezza but perhaps we all know how that will span out.

It is high time Maruti understands that boot space is the only thing people are willing or mentally prepared to compromise on when buying a CNG car and not useful and good to have features.

For now, kudos to Tata for launching a 4 star NCAP rated feature rich car in an alternative fuel avatar.

Tata launching CNG in their upper variants speaks about the confidence they have built up. Prices are VFM! Maybe the Tiago-Tigor twins just added another 2000 numbers to their monthly despatch. Also what I like is the price spectrum, Tata has covered right from 6.09lakhs to 8.28 lakhs, it has also avoided overlapping between Tigor and Tiago CNG variants, so basically tigor pricing starts from the point where tiago ends.
That midnight plum on tiago in pictures looks premium though.

XZ+ has steel wheels with caps instead of alloys. So the price difference is 90k+35k (approx). Am I overlooking something? Can CNG variant be called XZ+ if it misses alloys or should a new variant ought to have been introduced?

I can think of two reasons:

1. CNG tank is volumetrically bigger in terms of water holding capacity and can't fit in the space designed for petrol tank. (35L petrol tank vs 60L CNG)

2. Giving the customers a Bi-Fuel option until CNG stations become widespread as Petrol ones.

Very well spotted there. While they've highlighted the new feature additions, this deletion of sorts has been done quite subtly. What I could also notice is that Piano Black ORVMs are now available from XT now as against XZ+ earlier.

But that definitely begs the question of real premium being paid for CNG!!

But apart from cost cutting, another major reason for not providing the 15 inch alloys could be the added 100 kgs of kerb weight. From my experience of driving these 15 inchers (and having faced a sidewall cut), you definitely feel much more of the road due to that thinner sidewall. I think apart from the gorgeous looks, buyers are better off with the 14 inch wheels.
