@rahul - roof mounted Ac is available as a dealer fitted option even now..but agree the existing vents for the middle row needs improvement or relocation.

@wizardofid - the test mules are basically for proving the engine / EMS ,,interiors are also getting a makeover, which will be seen in the new launch

@w 12 : That was a whole lot of information regarding the Eagle. I dont care much about the interiors if an electronic mirror control is available.(its tough to reach the other end for an adjustment) This lighter engine should make the balance part less scary with the coil spiring suspension.

Hope the 4X4 version will also be freely available.

A much-lighter but powerful version of Mahindra's Scorpio is on its way with the company planning a 2.2-litre engine for the utility vehicle against the existing 2.6-litre. The company is also planning to introduce a CNG version of its flagship model soon. According to senior Mahindra officials, a lighter 2.2-litre engine is well on its way and may hit the market by September this year. “We are working on a lighter engine and it may hit the market soon,” the officials told FE, though refusing to divulge details regarding a possible effect on the pricing of the vehicle.
The new ‘Eagle’ engine, a 2.2-litre, four-valve per head, turbo-diesel is expected to not only be fitted on the future Scorpios but also export models and the upcoming Ingenio MPV that the company plans to launch in 2008. It will help the company meet the upcoming stricter emission norms.

Financial express earlier said that both will be released by June-July07.

I guess we will have to see it to believe it. (the releases from both of them)

2.2 Lit Scorpio will be lighter and more fuel eff than the present one which give 8 , 9 or 10 . But the roll will be there as the wheel base is short for the height .

Got a call from a local TATA dealer yesterday, he was trying to explain that there is no point waiting for a 2.2 ltr SAFARI as the news of the 2.2 is baseless and has been floated by competitors to bring down their sale.

Going by this logic, maybe the news of the EAGLE is nothing but a clever ploy by TATA marketing guys!

w 12,

Thats a good bit of info - read this thread now. Those are some nice bells and whistles provided - the tyre pressure info, auto headlights etc. If they set right its handling and interior ergonomics, they've gotten a true Safari competitor.

I doubt the internal tyre pressure indicators will make it to the production version. They're often used on test mules. And if they do, they're still pretty useless.

The car will continue to have its present set of issues unless they get an all-new chassis.

Along with all new Electrics and new, improved, better quality ancillaries. Not to mention she needs to be lightened a bit and also have new interiors with better quality plastics & finishing.

alongwith all this , hope they also throw in a gold plated Jack for free AND a 50% reduction in prices from the current levels.. , to make it really attractive.

but seriously IMO , there will be some improvements to interiors, but as v1p3r says, it will remain a scorpio and it WILL continue to sell , even with all its warts highlighted here.

If eagle is launced at almost same price of current crde , scorpio can consolidate its market even more.

Yes such gadgets are not really much use. It is like the bad fuel thing they put in the Safari which tells you after you have filled up that the fuel is bad.

I hope Indian autos would work more on getting the basics right rather than loading vehicles with gizmos to mask over the underlying problems.
