re: Maruti & Toyota's Creta-rivaling midsize SUV revealed - Urban Cruiser Hyryder

Is the regular petrol or mild hybrid petrol the same engine as on the Brezza, scross, xl6. It wouldn't be a good competing one.

Also Vitara is shorter in length than even the Kushaq. Hope it is well packaged.

In all probability it will be the same K15C used in the current Maruti lineup. There are some talks of getting a 1.4turbo in addition to the hybrid powetrain from Toyota.

Likely to be 4.3m in length and will have more road presence than the German twins.

Reason for my doubt is Vitara is showing as 4,175 mm in length.

This is the same Vitara whose spy shots are posted on this thread. Most of exposed detail of the spy pics matches with the Vitara here like the alloy design, rear wiper and black bits on the rear glass.

Toyota's all-new mid-size SUV to be unveiled on 1st July

Toyota has confirmed the date for the unveiling of its all-new mid-size SUV for the Indian market. The SUV, which is expected to be called Hyryder, will be revealed on July 1, 2022.

The Toyota Hyryder will be based on a localised version of the TNGA-B platform and manufactured at the company's plant in Bidadi, Karnataka.

The car will come equipped with plenty of features including LED headlamps, an electric sunroof, a floating touchscreen infotainment head-unit with connected technology, ventilated seats, a 360-degree camera and a lot more. The SUV is said to be powered by a 1.5-litre strong self-charging hybrid powertrain with different drive modes.

The Toyota Hyryder will take on the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, Skoda Kushaq and others. The Hyryder SUV will share its underpinnings with Maruti's upcoming mid-size SUV, codenamed YFG. The Maruti SUV, though, is expected to arrive at a slightly later stage and have a different identity of its own.

Make or break product for Toyota Kirloskar India, They have been surviving on the Innova and Fortuner for quite a while now, This needs to click big time for them.
Happy that they're unveiling it earlier than expected.

Disagree ! Make or Break term is better suited for Skoda/VW 2.0 India Strategy. Toyota India is happy with the Innova & Fortuners they are selling and also getting decent volumes with the badge engineered products from Maruti's product basket.

Volumes alone do not reveal the complete picture. The real margins both Toyota and it's dealerships enjoy on both sales and after-sales make it a very profitable venture. The Innova and the Fortuner dominate their respective segments despite charging a hefty premium over struggling competition.

Pricing power is very important in the automotive business, precisely why all car companies try pushing their products and brand image upmarket.

The only auto company that enjoys (leaving out premium brands, Germans etc.) this sort of pricing power in India is perhaps Royal Enfield.

Toyota or any manufacturer would want a new launch to succeed after investing in crores. However almost all car in Toyota's line up are performing well, even the uber expensive Vellfire. They did make loss last year which I assume was due to COVID, however things are looking bright this year.

This is a much needed product/choice for the market, especially to the non Hyundai/Kia fans. And this marks the beginning of the diminishing market share of the VAG twins and MG Astor.

re: Maruti & Toyota's Creta-rivaling midsize SUV revealed - Urban Cruiser Hyryder

It's a sweet news for people like me in dilemma to upgrade....
  • German twins and MG Astor are too small in space for my needs
  • Korean twins are not as safe, value and every other garage has one
  • TATA/Mahindra twins niggles, long wait times and service capability
  • High price of Jeep Compass not justified for space and other offerings
Waiting for 1st July 2022, already 'rydyng' high on the hope it will be priced sensibly

Would Maruti be priced lower than Toyota?

re: Maruti & Toyota's Creta-rivaling midsize SUV revealed - Urban Cruiser Hyryder

Toyota's ( and Maruti's) Mid SUV, more details emerge:

- The strong hybrid variants will also offer selectable drive modes

- 3 drive modes – pure petrol, hybrid drive, and pure EV.

- In the pure EV mode, the car is expected to run for about 80-100 km

- Overall fuel efficiency is expected to be upwards of 23 km/litre.

- Hyryder will very well be a proper SUV measuring more than 4.3 m in length

- The lower & mid variants will use a petrol & mild-hybrid engine option while the top-end trims are anticipated to use full hybrid tech.

- Unveil in July, launch in August and deliveries by Diwali.

re: Maruti & Toyota's Creta-rivaling midsize SUV revealed - Urban Cruiser Hyryder

Just counting days now...though i'm not looking for an upgrade, this news is tempting and can't wait to visit my favorite Nandi Toyota in Bangalore.

Dear Toyota, can you please price this sensibly and provide enough spread of variants (something for-all kind of)?
Gaining footfall is important now, and, hopefully it'll translate to bookings! fingers crossed!
