Hope this is true but these rumors have been around a while. And of course, if they did bring it in, unless it's CKD or local manufacture, the RAV4 is likely to be priced quite outlandishly. But (if CKD or local manufacture) definitely could use with some more choices in the 30-40 L SUV range.

Do we know how is the build quality with this platform? Hope it doesn't come with sub 3 GNCAP ratings as some of the other MSIL cars?
Anything 4 and above would be great 👍

Extremely sorry for this OT post;

Toyota has no plans for launching the RAV4 in India, had it been planned it would’ve been camouflaged!

Many may reason, then why the Yaris Cross on test is under camouflage, when Toyota is not considering it’s launch at all, well the reason is the Yaris Cross is being used by Maruti-Suzuki for testing the 1.5L hybrid (going to power both YFG and D22) and Toyota can’t afford to show a ‘real’ Toyota entering Maruti-Suzuki’s plant. Wannabe YouTubers are helping more by calling that Yaris Cross the new Brezza

The RAV4 is here for testing it’s 2.5L hybrid engine, which I believe will be sharing some/many components with the new 2L Hybrid petrol engine that Toyota India has just started limited production of.

The RAV4, according to it’s international pricing would’ve ideally fit between the Innova Crysta and Fortuner, and that is exactly where the Innova Hycross (Innova Hybrid) is going to fit.

So, the Innova Hycross for SE Asia is going to be what the RAV4 is for the rest of the world!

Updated Suzuki Hybrid Specs Revealed!

The Vitara which was discontinued in japan has had a relaunch with a revised version. More importantly it shows the new hybrid powertrain which is likely to be launched in India.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Based on the 2014 fourth-gen Suzuki Vitara
- 1.5-liter DualJet four-cylinder engine, 99 hp & 132 Nm of torque
- Plus, Electric motor rated at 33 hp & 60 Nm of torque
- 6-speed ASG automatic gearbox with gearshift paddles
- Combined output is 115 hp
- 6 Ah battery mounted under the cargo space
- Performance 0-100 km/h acceleration in 12.7, top speed179 km/h
- ADAS and AWD options available
- Claimed combined WLTC fuel consumption, 5.1 lt/100 km

Quote:

Suzuki has announced the return of the Escudo in Japan, after a short break following the SUV’s discontinuation last year. The current fourth-generation Suzuki Vitara (third-gen Escudo) has been around since 2014, although it has received important updates since.

The new powertrain combines a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter DualJet four-cylinder engine producing a modest 99 hp (74 kW / 101 PS) and 132 Nm (97.4 lb-ft) of torque, with an electric motor rated at 33 hp (24.6 kW / 33.4 PS) and 60 Nm (44 lb-ft) of torque. European data suggests the combined output is 115 hp (85 kW / 116 PS) which is less than the 127 hp (95 kW / 129 PS) of the mild-hybrid 1.4-liter TurboJet. This is evident in the performance with a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration in 12.7 seconds and a top speed of 179 km/h (111 mph) for the HEV, compared to the 9.7 seconds and 190 km/h (118 mph) for the MHEV.

Power is transmitted to all four wheels through a 6-speed ASG automatic gearbox with gearshift paddles, in combination with Suzuki’s AllGrip AWD system. The latter is offering Auto, Sport, Snow, and Lock modes, allowing great off-road capability for the segment while improving performance. In some European markets, the hybrid Vitara also comes in front-wheel-drive flavour with AWD being optional, like the rest of Suzuki’s range.

The 6 Ah battery is larger than in the mild-hybrid variants, thus it is mounted under the cargo space (it used to be under the front seats). Thanks to that, the Escudo / Vitara can be driven with electric power alone under certain scenarios like deceleration or reversing. Suzuki claims a combined WLTC fuel consumption of 5.1 lt/100 km (46 mpg).

Judging from the mechanically-related new generation S-Cross which is a heavily redesigned version of its predecessor, we expect the next Vitara / Escudo to follow a similar route before Suzuki moves on to the fully electric era. There are also rumors about another upcoming hybrid SUV with the Suzuki badge based on the Toyota Yaris Cross.

I don't think so. This is the hybrid system that was developed by Suzuki was Japan and European Applications. We will be getting a Toyota-developed Strong Hybrid solution. This was shared somewhere on this forum by Carma2017 if I am not wrong.

re: Maruti & Toyota's Creta-rivaling midsize SUV revealed - Urban Cruiser Hyryder

Found this image of Suzuki Vitara on Rushlane FB page. Alloy wheels are exactly the same and door handle recess is also of similar circular shape in both cars. Overall side profile and bonnet crease line suggests that it might be the Vitara but there are conflicting info that it might be based on TNGA platform.

Ah, looks like this one will get tinted glasses like the Baleno and XL6. Car has good ground clearance but the photograph angle appears to lengthen the front overhang.

Although I'd have liked more if Maruti had actually developed a proper coupe as well!

IMO, with the side mirrors, wheels, etc everything giving glimpses of the Vitara and S-Cross, I think this car could very well be based on the same platform (although that doesn't seem to be necessarily a bad thing since I'd expect this to have a ride similar to the S-Cross and an almost 5-star Global NCAP rating!)

Yep! Even the 360 degree camera setup is obvious. Good to see Maruti providing these basic but unpopular features in all their bigger cars when even some much larger Tatas, MGs etc miss out on them!

It would be a blessing in disguise if the new SUV turns out to be based on S cross platform. It's a rugged and tested platform all it needs is a host of new age features, a more SUVish look and option of a more powerful powertrain with a competent autobox. But, most reports currently suggest that this SUV is based on Toyota's TNGA platform and will have Toyota hyrbid system. Let's see how things turn up in coming days.

Thanks for sharing, the size looks just perfect with good road presence and ground clearance. Headlights, handles, OVRMs look modernish.

I didn't like the ordinary alloys, they look more like wheel caps from a distance. Hope higher variants may get better looking diamond cut alloys.

I would be in the market to buy a new SUV to replace my Duster AMT by this year end, hope to see a worthy replacement.

Though the basic silhouette of the car looks a lot similar to the international vitara, this seems to be a new car built grounds up. If we look closely, the window trims are much wider than the super thin ones seen on the current vitara. The ORVMs are more pushed forward in this new model too. The wheel arches if the vitara are a lot more rounded than this one which looks boxy like the jeep compass. The previous maruti mules had different alloys too. Also I don't know if it's the angle, but this one seems to be longer beyond the rear doors.

And the bigger thing is, the current international vitara is at its end of life cycle so there's no point in launching it here now.

In the spy shots , why is the C -Pillar looking so huge . Is it hiding something .
My Guess , it is going to have a full size quarter glass like a Vitara .

re: Maruti & Toyota's Creta-rivaling midsize SUV revealed - Urban Cruiser Hyryder

Toyota takes first step towards localised production of hybrid SUV to rival the Koreans. With the tax slab being high for Hybrids, localization of components is the only way out to contain costs.

The Japanese carmaker has committed to an investment of Rs 4,100 crore in an MoU with the Gov. of Karnataka. Toyota Industries Engine India (TIEI) will pitch in with another INR 700 crore. (INR 4,800 Cr. total)

- Toyota will be setting up local manufacturing of electric powertrain parts and components.

- Its next big offering will be a compact SUV, codename D22, with a hybrid powertrain option.

- This hybrid SUV will also be shared with Maruti Suzuki ensuring volumes worth the investment.

- The MoU states that the investments are aimed at promoting greener technologies while also setting up a manufacturing hub in India. [/quote]

Quote:
As stated in the MoU, the investments aim to promote greener technologies, mitigate carbon emissions, and enable local production facilities to build electric powertrain parts and components. The Toyota Group of Companies will be making systematic investment towards making India a manufacturing hub.
The hybrid powertrain that will be manufactured in India is expected to be the same as the one offered in Toyota’s global model, the Yaris Cross.

Quote:
While it will debut in the upcoming Hyundai Creta rival, it could be offered in other future models for India as well. The hybrid setup provides a stepping stone for many buyers who are not willing to jump to EVs while the supporting infrastructure is still under development. Its localisation will make hybrids cheaper than ever, even without government support.
