Re: Maruti & Toyota's Creta-rivaling midsize SUV revealed - Urban Cruiser Hyryder

Toyota also has PHEVs, (Plug in Hybrid) with an electric only range of about 50 km.

https://www.toyota-europe.com/world-...hybrid-vehicle

To me it would have made a much better use case for India scenario, since the weekday commutes for office goers could be well covered in the EV mode, and the weekend where one has time for longer highway drives could be covered in the hybrid mode.

I am wondering, why not PHEV Toyota? Feel like getting the 'third world treatment' ?

Anybody, any idea about PHEVs coming to India in near future?

This is nothing but the new generation S-Cross. Auto-car India almost got their rendering correct and hats off to them

The new generation S-Cross itself is just a re-worked version of the previous generation S-Cross.

Is this based on heartect platform or the Global-C platform?

Well, we need to accept the fact we are still a developing economy. Leave aside the Luxury segment, Indian car market is very price sensitive.

PHEV requires more batteries and charging paraphernalia integration. Hence, the cost will be high. Jeep compass has a PHEV version, so do Toyota and Honda - around the world. May be it doesn’t make business sense for the manufacturers to launch PHEVs in India.

Also, want to reiterate that Nissan Kicks epower launched couple of years back in Thailand made a lot of sense for Indian market. Riding on the Magnite success, this would have been the first real Hybrid SUV in India. But, cost of more than 20 lacs didn’t cut it out for Nissan India, I suppose.

Nevertheless, no harm in being optimistic and hope for mass market PHEVs hitting Indian shores soon.

1) Plug-in hybrid pricing would be prohibitive for Most customers … strong hybrid is already likely 3 lac costlier than comparable petrol variant
2) would need external charging .. a key constraint strong hybrids seek to circumvent .. if charging infra (personal or public) was not an issue than one might straight away go to pure BEVs

Re: Maruti & Toyota's Creta-rivaling midsize SUV revealed - Urban Cruiser Hyryder

My contact at Hebbal Bangalore Showroom had posted photos of him with blue colored Hyryder. Not sure if he attended the event personally or the car is available at Hebbal showroom. It is too far away from my place to check out! If anyone is nearby the area, could check it out.

The price difference between the Prius PHEV and Prius Hybrid is about $4K, which is not a lot, and in the stretchable range for those who can spend in that range.

This offers a much faster breakeven case for the additional premium.

But anyway, we should be thankful to Toyota for taking the first step.

Increasingly, the same thought is growing on me after all these days of anxious waiting... especially seeing the three quarter view, the doors, projection of the tail lamp, quarter glass, front overhang and the rear windscreen inclination. Let us wait for the exact dimensions to confirm whether it is the old wine in the new bottle.

Re: Maruti & Toyota's Creta-rivaling midsize SUV revealed - Urban Cruiser Hyryder

I was eagerly waiting for this revelation !!

Initial impressions after seeing car (in pictures/videos):
  • Its definitely a refreshing design to look at, soon roads will be crowded with HyRyder
  • Giant leap from Etios and lot of creature comforts to compared to mighty Fortuner (Toyota surprised us, going Korean way giving bells and whistles liberally)
  • Looks sturdy from the reviews, so decent GNCAP rating is expected
  • Though there is no WOW factor, it has most of everything covered to give tough fight + armed with Hybrid
  • Rear quarter glass indicates the size & space inside cabin

What I didn't like:
  • Boot space in strong Hybrid seem to be very very small (due to the battery placed in boot)
  • Rear indicators/reverse lamp/brake light cluster is an eyesore, looks like an after thought
  • No fog lamps

Conclusion:
  • We were tight even with Duster's 475 liters boot, so I can still consider if its above 400 liters
  • Need to see the ride quality, high speeds manners, safety

Overall its a great effort from Toyota - need to see pricing and model differentiation on Suzuki's offer

More like heavily reworked Vitara. Not S-Cross.

Giveaways. The C (D?) pillar.

The ORVMs. The S-cross is mounted on the doors, and Toyota would have been more than happy to continue it as their global models have all done the same. But the Hyryder continues with the old Vitara's ORVM positioning on the A pillar corner.

Being a made-in-Karnataka car can we all collectively hope this convinces the state government to offer some rebate for strong hybrids.
Already we boast of the highest road taxes in the country 😄

Found another walk-around video of the car from the dealership where it is on display.

Re: Maruti & Toyota's Creta-rivaling midsize SUV revealed - Urban Cruiser Hyryder

When is the price list expected to be revealed? I hate these multi stage car launches. Do companies decide the price only after a 'soft launch'? What is the expected price range for Hyryder?
