Re: Maruti & Toyota's Creta-rivaling midsize SUV revealed - Urban Cruiser Hyryder

Looks good in the pictures shared by people from showroom floor. Looks quite big with good road presence, good interiors and space management. Toyota should stop with all the suspense and should start test drives/media drives along with release of price list.

Re: Maruti & Toyota's Creta-rivaling midsize SUV revealed - Urban Cruiser Hyryder

Guilty of booking the car before the price is revealed. I have started thinking of how much free float do these companies get for a more than a month. Off course they have to provision giving back the amount in case the car bookings are cancelled, but so much free float for a month is also good for the company, isnt it?

The road presence of the toyota urban cruiser hyrder can be visualized when viewing this video - (Watch from 20:03).

Looks pretty good from the rear with those LED lights just like the new brezza.

Re: Maruti & Toyota's Creta-rivaling midsize SUV revealed - Urban Cruiser Hyryder

I visited Madhuban Toyota Kurla today to check out Hyryder. Vehicle looks big in person. Internal fittings looks premium.

Headroom may feel lower side for people above 6ft.

Bootspace looks extremely small. Parcel tray and boot bottom shelf are detachable. But big suitcase cannot be made to stand, as space is narrow.

Saw the video, and would like to bring out couple of points.

1. Boot space approx 353 lts.

2. GC approx 211mm.

In hindsight Prime numbers 353 and 211, look genuine from the TOYOTA dealership.

Re: Maruti & Toyota's Creta-rivaling midsize SUV revealed - Urban Cruiser Hyryder

If the specifications of the boot space are right, then the 353 litre boot is smaller by 80 litres than the Koreans. Heck, even the WagonR has a 341 litre boot. The GC figures are great though.

I think it’s better to compare the boot space of mild hybrid versions with the Koreans. The boot space of strong hybrid ought to be decreased because of the battery pack. The only other hybrid car available in this price range is Honda City hybrid which has even lower boot space of about 306L.

Boot space of the new Wagon R is at a different level altogether. It’s comparable to sub 4m SUVs, much more than other cars of it’s segment.

The full on Hybrid having that boot space is commendable, but does anyone have the specs of the mild-hybrid version. Or is it that the figures are the same for both the versions (hope that is unlikely)

Maruti Suzuki’s own Brezza has a 328L boot compared to the WagonR’s 341L

Re: Maruti & Toyota's Creta-rivaling midsize SUV revealed - Urban Cruiser Hyryder

Visited Toyota dealership on Saturday to see the hyryder. Exterior was nice but Interiors were a sore disappointment and honestly a deal breaker for me.
Finally after a lot of searching the entire family has decided to go for the Alcazar in Phantom Black, so really excited for that.

The sad part is that Toyota is one brand which has solved this issue long back ! Look at Camry or Rav4 . The battery placement is under the rear seat. And there's zero loss of boot space. If the platform was a genuine cross partnership effort between Suzuki and Toyota, they could have a figured out a way. But here it seems they just plonked the Toyota hybrid setup into Suzuki global c platform without really working together on the platform as well.

It is low in terms of numbers but I somehow struggled with boot of Kia Seltos(claimed as 430L) and found it similar to say 350L boot on Nexon in terms of usability. Removal of rear parcel tray liberates extra room though !!

I feel Hyryder/Vitara too can be practical here in terms of vertical space in the boot unlike a sedan such as Honda City. Best thing to do is wait for real world tests.

Re: Maruti & Toyota's Creta-rivaling midsize SUV revealed - Urban Cruiser Hyryder

What is the Hyryder?

A Mid size SUV. Not compact. Compact is limited to Brezza. Venue Sonet and the Citroen C3.

Mid size that will compete directly with Nexon, Seltos and Creta in the Indian market.

This is not the Toyota Yaris Cross as many people believe. It is a group company owned Daihatshu Raize chassis.

Made longer by about 300 mm.

A product engineered for Indian market along with RHD and LHD exports.

These arguments that will it rival Creta or Seltos are impractical. With the current waiting lists there's room for everyone for the next three years. And then whoever delivers a more reliable product and has a better service will win.

My feeling is that Toyota Kirloskar India have got a winner here. Just the right product at the right time that can easily sell 12.000 to 15,000 units a month in this market if they can produce that many.

A mid size SUV is what the class defines. Urban cruiser doing the city run and some out of town trips for a nuclear urban family. But this is a Duster size SUV with a lot more refinement and new world drive train. It will find rural popularity too. It is dependable. Poised to replace the rural Scorpio which is too less for the price now.

Toyota internal research suggests that a Turbo Petrol engine is difficult with the preference towards roadside tinkering in India. Thus they stuck to 100 bhp and 1500 cc with two levels of Hybrid technology.

With a panoramic sunroof a must have for 20 lakh segment these days the rear head room is a bit compromised. The facelift might address that. But this and its stable mate Suzuki Vitara are poised to make waves once launched.

Interesting point about the boot-space. Looking at the side-view in this post, there doesnt seem much space in the boot. However, other pics in the thread show 3 suitcases being put in with space to spare. Looks like another old trick that car companies use to show modified suitcases and as a count, but reveal the actual space available ?
