All this while having Crysta on sale by the side - This ain't gonna be cheap!

Off topic, but it was kinda funny to see the top honchos at Toyota India busy talking while the presenter was asking them to look at the cameras. Probably talking about the bucket load of money they're gonna make
Interestingly I don't find Crysta listed on Toyota Bharat website!

I guess delivery time should also be an important criteria and should be discussed/considered in all reviews for impatient buyers like me to have better clarity and help in buying decision. As waiting for ages not only defeats the purpose of buying the vehicle but also deteriorates the ownership pleasure of the new vehicle.

Heh, I’m in the same boat. Currently holding bookings for Mg Zs ev, scorpio-N, 2 bookings for the Innova Hycross at seperate dealerships because I really really want this one.

Re: Toyota Innova Hycross, now unveiled

I am just disappointed that we cannot have ZX hybrid in 8 seater configuration (in reality 7 seater). With heavy luggage the car will end up becoming 4 seater without a bench in the middle. Hope they rectify this.

Re: Toyota Innova Hycross, now unveiled

This review concluded on note that, "If you want a rugged 7 seater family SUV...buy the MPV".

Innova Crysta is truly a SUV in MPV clothing.

Comparing Crysta was like doing apples to oranges, Hycross will now level the playing field in this segment.

Even after being so low on feature set, Crysta consistently managed to log 6k monthly dispatches. But, I think the clientele of Crysta is very different, women have very less say in its purchase. Local businessmen or politician buy it as it fulfills big car aspirations along with fill it shut it character. The most number of Crystas I have found is outside urban centres especially in Tier-2 cities and upcoming new town where rugged vehicles rule due to the demanding client base and its purchasing power.

White Innova Crysta with personal number plates commands more respect on road even from Police and it is bothered less as well by all around. Providing captian seats in middle row was one of the biggest USP and helped cement its aspirational value forever. It is the most sought after seat among the occupants in the car and fills the person with that good feeling.

Hycross has definitely managed to cover the size part and improve on missing feature set, lets see how it is able to maintain its lead on other fronts.

Re: Toyota Innova Hycross, now unveiled

Greetings to all the Team-BHP members and readers. Firstly, I would like to thank the moderators of this forum for approving my request for membership—an absolute honour for 15-year-old me!

Coming to the topic of discussion, the Innova Hycross is quite the product. It’s an interesting proposition and we all know that it has taken the fight to the Kia Carnival. However, the Hycross represents a duality. While some customers want a high-tech, luxurious car, others want an Innova. The true characteristics of an Innova, that make it what it is, namely, the tough construction, body-on-frame layout and rear-wheel-drive ruggedness and the bulletproof diesel engine are missing in the new generation. It remains to be seen whether customers will settle for the hybrid technology and frugality along with those sublime Ottoman seats rather than the brand image and emotional appeal that an Innova always had.

It might not be an exciting driver’s car, but the Innova is a hallmark when it comes to practicality and sheer reliability. Let’s see if the Hycross maintains Toyota’s dominance over the sales charts in this segment.

Cheers,
Shoury A Dasari

Re: Toyota Innova Hycross, now unveiled

Great effort from Toyota to make the new innova look a lot more of a SUV than a traditional MPV! Thats the key i think here! You will see a lot more Safari and XUV700 customers cross shopping this new innova now. This is the new Urban Cross over that seems like a great all-rounder!

But a huge disappointment in terms of some basic equipment. If the rumoured pricing is right, then the first two variants with manual air conditioner is a huge let down! And whats more, none of the first 3 variants get 6 airbags! I think once a car like this is going to cross the 25+ lakh barrier, Toyota should have made 6 airbags and Automatic climate control as standard. But this is India you see, and if Mahindra can get away with a manual air conditioner in a 25+ lakh XUV700 AX5, then for Toyota its cake walk!

Re: Toyota Innova Hycross, now unveiled

I'm going out on a limb and posting an unpopular opinion.

Assuming that the pricing would likely be starting around ₹28L(non-Hybrid without ADAS) to approx 38L(hybrid) (OTR), IMHO it may do well for the initial time, but the market has brilliant non-Hybrid luxury/performance oriented options (Carnival, Kodiaq, Octavia etc) that the Toyota Hycross will have to compete against.

Simply consider the petrol XUV7OO top end variant with ADAS at ₹26L OTR, that car is a well developed, well built product with 200 horses on tap!

I don't think the product, with its hard plastics & average interior can command the premium "Toyota Tax" that they're likely to ask for it.

I don't know their sales projections & plans, I'm not saying that the Hycross will die/flop, it'll live/sell well for a bit, but then it may struggle to sell huge numbers, if the market behaved rationally (which it rarely does!).

Re: Toyota Innova Hycross, now unveiled

The car looks a winner from the word go. Even I cancelled my XUV 700 D AT booking* as counting on this feature rich product offered by Toyota, Hybrid cars are going to be in vogue for atleast a decade.

But I am yet to book Hycross (one reason being I can wait for some time till the want for 7 seater will become a need), which I will do after 3 points are made clear (keeping fingers crossed for official review by TeamBHP).

1) In gear acceleration: With electric motor to supplement, low torque of petrol will be sufficient but how will the torque delivery be and driving dynamics (esp while overtaking) would be while accelerating is unknown. Compression here would be Diesel SUV/MUVs

2) Variant selection: Need to reconfirm whether TSS is actually worth the buck

3) Safety rating (hope it will be released soon and there would not be any surprises, considering made to budget Etios was also 4 star)

* It would be interesting to know how many XUV 700 bookings got cancelled/will be cancelled in 3 days post launch of Hycross, only if M&M releases data!

Re: Toyota Innova Hycross, now unveiled

Has anyone done the pricing analysis on Innova Zenix’s launch in Indonesia?

1. What is the % uplift in pricing as compared to existing Crysta petrol?
2. What is the % premium between the top-trim with and without ADAS? ( Trying to get a sense of quantum between ZX and ZX(O)

Thanks!

On the contrary, the noise outside is very important for us to drive mindfully in a country like ours. The horns, people shouting, and the sound of oncoming vehicles, livestock, and others from vision-blocked areas are all important for us to keep a tab on for a safe drive. So, too much noise insulation is a bad thing here. Yes, low NVH is desirable when it is controlled on the source from the same vehicle, say, when the Engine produces less gruffiness and vibrations, et al.

Adding on to this:

Climate control is just 2 zones : front and rear. The front passenger does not get their own zone unlike the norm.

Electro-chromatic interior mirror is a very welcome addition.

8 way powered driver's seat with memory is a great touch. Everything else in the segment other than the Jeep Compass/Meridian only offers the barebones 6 way adjust. The bottom cushion tilt adjustment is very important to combat leg fatigue.

I think it will.

To me, this Innova Hycross looks like a glorified Highlander sold in other markets. The one thing that the Highlander does well is offer a comfortable and quiet ride which I am confident this new Innova will ace, as the platform both these cars use are identical. Just like any other Toyota, its not going to blow your mind with anything in particular. It will run reliably and spend the least amount of time in the workshop.

I would fully agree that this one looks like a Highlander. I wonder why Toyota simply didn't name this "HyCross" dropping the Innova name altogether since they are going to have the current Crysta on sale. This is a completely new vehicle after all, but, I guess they wanted to let everyone know that this is an evolution of Innova - but they did drop the Qualis name altogether.

Yeah...that's also kinda interesting. Most probably the Crysta is going to be on sale for an year more. We have to remember that Toyota was the company which pulled the plug on the Qualis, which was doing respectable numbers back in the day, to introduce the Innova. But back then, competition wasn't this fierce. From the looks of it, Hycross is set to rule the roost between anything from XUV7OO/Safari till Tucson/Kodiaq. Crysta might be there to just ease this into the customer's minds.
The following quote is also an interesting question.

Now Toyota and Maruti have already invested into hybrids and launched the products as well. Their strategies must be aligned with such a move that will benefit hybrids.
Although I don't think that might suit the aggressive electrification approach of the government. But wishful thinking never hurts anyone right!

That’s a clear photoshopped image. An original is circulating somewhere as well.
