Re: Toyota Innova Hycross, now unveiled

Who would like to give a voice command standing outside to open the trunk ? Imagine people all around and you are saying that just to open the trunk. If it doesn't get it you keep repeating and then just dump all groceries on rear seat
Gesture control like others would have been better

Toyota have gone with the popular styling trend and made the Hycross to look more like an SUV and less like a Van.
This is at the core of the expectation mismatch where the consumer wishes for larger wheels to make the SUV styling feel complete, but the underlying van design won't allow it.

The Hycross is still a people mover and its lower torque figures (unlike for Eg: a Fortuner with 500Nm torque) will not make it suitable to be run on larger tyres.

It has an electric motor for torque at 0 rpm, that will be fine. It will affect the mileage though, which is perhaps why they avoided it. Though looking at how many small engine petrol crossovers exist, I don't think bigger wheels would really be that much of an issue. I think a 235 65 R18 would have been nice like on the Safari, XUV700 etc

The 'stunning' Toyota HYcross poses with all its potential competitors (pricing wise), including its sibling Innova Crysta.

TBH, the HyCross is looking as SUV as the XUV7OO parked beside it, in fact it has better presence at the front. Toyota is calling it a MPV, just to save the Fortuner!!

They probably didn't give it AWD for the same reason!

Re: Toyota Innova Hycross, now unveiled

The Hycross certainly looks good.

In this age of quirky, unconventional designs, overdone cut & creases & curves & angles, weird headlight and tail-light patterns, this comes as a breath of fresh air - classic & proportionate design, conventional yet contemporary & decently butch SUV-ish looks.

It would be a rare person that doesnt find it - at the very least - fairly pleasant-looking

Re: Toyota Innova Hycross, now unveiled

Given the rumours about the government considering a vehicle tax revamp based on emissions, the Hybrid might just get a decent price cut.

A sub 30lakh on road VX might just kill the sales of all its competitors.

The hycross with an AWD option will be all the SUV that one would need for real world usage. Hope Toyota is listening.

Not going to happen. AWD or 4x4 is not a part of Toyota’s plans. As it is, the HyCross has all the potential to cannibalise the Fortuner’s top selling 4x2 automatic base model. Addition of any kind of AWD option will make the Fortuner irrelevant for most people.

Fortuner is Toyota’s cash cow and identity, just like the City is for Honda. They do everything to protect it, even from stablemates. Toyota had discontinued the 2.8 diesel from the Innova simply because it was eating into Fortuner sales.

Re: Toyota Innova Hycross, now unveiled

Have you guys noticed how good the Indonesian version of Hycross looks with all-black interiors and leather finish?

This dual chestnut tone looks cheap for this class of car on the Zx. Is there a workaround for this, as this is a deal breaker in my family?

Dont think Toyota will go AWD or 4x4 with Hycross. Considering its already going to be expensive, they adding AWD will push it close to Fortuner territory, that I dont think Toyota will want, its just not about financials, its more brand positioning I would assume. Because Fortuner is more of Toyota saying that is my premium product, its a status symbol. They will not position Hycross to be status symbol, because that would mean pushing it out of general public's purchasing power reach. Hycross will only get AWD if Toyota decides to revamp new Gen Fortuner and push its price a bit further with a bit more of creature comforts and that might eventually lead to a AWD in Hycross, but i dont think a proper 4X4 will ever come to Hycross unless they do Dual motor setup with plug in hybrid in future.

Plus considering all thats been said, Maruthi will eventually get this rebadged version of Hycross, there no chance Toyota will ever let Maruthi go shoulder on shoulder with Fortuner ranks. End of the day "Baap baap hotha hai".

Also, they wouldn't want to provide AWD on a car with relatively low ground clearance, create a hump to accommodate the rear drive shaft, make it heavy and expensive.

Booked ZX Avante Garde Bronze - will cancel if Ex-showroom crosses 29-30L or if test drive turns out to be not as per my liking. I Have Hexa XTA now which is 5+ years old - so need to ensure if this will indeed be an upgrade.
