Is India a dumping ground for outdated / poorly rated cars?

Well, that certainly could have been said to be true till a decade ago. But since then, with the Indian consumer overwhelmingly demonstrating that he wanted modern technologies and could no longer live with dated products, I think the situation is better now than ever before.

If you are refering to these models, then IMO you are trying to dig up a topic that is no longer relevant to the Indian Car scene today.

Yep we need to dig the past to analayze , so that we can make sure ( at least protest against ) it will never happen again in India.

In current scenario there are many more models yet to be launched in india. MSIL is busy to add more to different segment, Renault is lining up with few models as well. And many more. Let's continue checking the possibilities of this kind of exploitations in the future models. Is the internationally sold jet and the current Indian jet ta is the same ?

I'd agree, with Hyundai launching some models worldwide from India. i10 was it ? Or i20 ?

. The very recent one is the Outlander , they launched the type 1 outlander , then after the newest one is launched , a kind of forced outdating to the first outlander buyers. The same thing may happen with pajero ant montero. I think montero is Pajero in Arab nations. Can any one dis agree that some of the manufacturers are trying " the old wine in new bottle technique" for Indian Market

Looking at specific examples

Suzuki - Esteem, Zen Estilo
Ford - Escort - focus has already taken over
Ford - Figo - old Fiesta but priced very cheaply. however Fiesta saloon was contemporary when launched
Opel Astra and Corsa- One gen behind when launched
Mercedes w124 - ditto
Fiat Uno
HM

As you can see most of those who persisted, lost badly

I think this kind of forced outdating only happened only when a model is newly introduced, check out the case of superb,accords,sonata,outlander. Many of the debut models will be upgraded to the international current selling models. Does that hints to stay away from the first launched model wait for some time that you can get the newest international model and happily drive it! There are also exceptions the civic, the I series Hyundai etc. Can we include the cedia to this list? How far the MSIL is using this strategy?

Foby, it will really help if you give specific details of the models you are trying to discuss. While you are giving names, I am looking for the model details. What date was it introduced here, and what date did it get phased out elsewhere ? Unless you have the details, this discussion will remain vague.

As long as our roads remain as they are, we will not get the same cars as are sold abroad. Many of the new inter-city roads are good, but not as yet world class. When we have autobahn class roads, then and then only, the same cars as sold in Europe or the US can be sold here.
Even Indian-made cars can be sold much cheaper, if it were not for the ridiculous taxes.

it is not more than two years or a little less than 2 years the Volvo cars have been introduced in Indian Market , to day I saw the face lifted models of the xc 60 and xc 90 , I will post the photos tomorrow , does that makes sense to the Pre face lift buyers , the only benefit is that they can play the depreciation techniques, also take the case of ford fusion which came to india in almost same time frame what happened to that model now? Will the genuine users get the correct ASnS? Since it's the case of Ford we can really worry that does it happen to the Figo ?

we definitely are a dumping ground for example just compare the polo abroad and the one offered in India (headlights and tail lights...)

In some cases launching latest products for developed markets conforming to their laws and regulations makes it impractical for India.

Just an example, when they make front ends soft, to conform to pedestrian safety norms, they do not have to assume that animals (cattle, dogs) run freely on the streets,they do not have to imagine that some mad cyclist (motorised or otherwise) might come in from the wrong direction, or might take a turn without even looking. In all of these occasions, even a soft hit, impacts deeply on the pocket.

They dont have to assume that the streets stay waterlogged during monsoons. Low lying air intake, and electronics get hit.

our conditions require our cars, sometimes older platforms, although has the potential of making the buyer feel shortchanged, might be more effective to deal with our unique traffic characteristics.

Anyway, what do most of our folks do? They improvise, install guards, armour and what not. In the process, potentially compromising the integrity, security and functioning of these new gadgets.
