Re: Toyota Hilux launched at Rs. 33.99 lakh

I finished installing the Tri-Fold Tonneau Cover this morning and it came out better than expected.

You have to make small slits in your factory bed liner and run the rubber stripping. Took me a few hours since I triple checked for leaks.

Ravin Rao (Motor Garage.in) in Gurgaon can get it for you. He can also install or you can do it yourself.

Re: Toyota Hilux launched at Rs. 33.99 lakh

New Toyota Hilux front windshield is Wavy or distorted in my vehicle , I had checked with another at the Dealer and it had the same problem. its a big safety issue and i would check if you have the new hilux. The rear glass also has the same problem. The waves or distortion could be seen clearly from inside of the car.

Re: Toyota Hilux launched at Rs. 33.99 lakh

UPDATE: Finished the Line-X coating last week....

Since the toyota bed-lining sucketh, Took the car over to Mangalore to get a longer drive experience and got the Line-X done for the bed. Very happy with the results. This was with KAM customs there. The lining is tough and doesn't mind my dragging my MS tent rack angles and the tent around on the it.

Another good side effect is that the bed space is better utilised, the lining has some bumps and curves that eat up space around the bottom edges.

Finally loaded up the GSA. It's a tight fit and a lot of muscle required! Optimum resource utilisation.

Re: Toyota Hilux launched at Rs. 33.99 lakh

Finished a long road trip + did some trails recently. Sharing some experiences:
  • Some pics from a hill excursion.

  • A bit of slush / flooded area driving.

Toyota Hilux launched at Rs. 33.99 lakh-slush2.jpg

Toyota Hilux launched at Rs. 33.99 lakh-slush3.jpg

Some observations:
  • The FE gauge is definitely overestimating things by at least ~0.5kmpl. In this pic, trip 3 shows an FE of 13.4 kmpl but a manual calculation showed it was actually 12.8 kmpl. Similarly, trip 4 shows 12.5 kmpl, whereas manual calcs indicated it was more like 12 kmpl.

Toyota Hilux launched at Rs. 33.99 lakh-img20220625wa0003.jpg
  • Somewhere along the highway drive, my wheel alignment went off and the car has started pulling to the left slightly. It's a very slight pull and is hard to detect so I'm riding with it for now. Unfortunately, neither Toyota Goa, nor any major tyre shop in Goa is ready with the software / hardware to handle the Hilux, so I'll have to plan a trip into some neighbouring state to get this problem investigated.
  • I ran my BFG KO2s on nitrogen @ 35 psi for the highway drives and got a pretty decent median FE of ~12.5 kmpl. Mud/offroad performance of these tyres has been excellent (kept the pressure at 32 psi for this).
  • The car + tyre combo really makes offroading very easy. I wonder if one can develop any decent offroading skills with A-TRAC / DAC etc doing 90% of the work?
  • The jungle trail has convinced me to defer my overlanding mod plans, and instead use the proceeds to get a PPF coating done first.

Is this your vehicle by any chance? If so, it would be great if you could share details of the setup you are using for this rig.

What a deadly vehicle. This thing is imposing and looks indestructible.
Immediately makes me want a pickup truck so that I can atleast partially live out my ‘Yellowstone’ cowboy, rancher, tough guy fantasies.

Re: Toyota Hilux launched at Rs. 33.99 lakh

Hi,

I thought that the recommended tyre pressure was 29/29 without load. Isn't 35 too high?

Regards

Re: Toyota Hilux launched at Rs. 33.99 lakh

Guys i need help with Hilux Accessories. I have a friend coming over next weekend from US. Am being told that Toyota Tacoma tonneau cover should fit Hilux. Wanted to ask if this is the case? And if yes what other accessories could be brought from there?

Thanks in advance

Actually I did a bit of research on this and sharing what I found here. Please do correct me if I've got anything wrong:
  • The 29 unladen & 33 fully laden air pressure is assuming regular air which expands ~4psi when driving. Since I was on nitrogen, and it does not expand as much, I figured it would make sense to keep the pressure somewhere between 33-35.
  • The stock Duellers are rated load range C (6ply), whereas the BFG KO2s that I am running have a load range of D (8 ply). The load index of the Duellers also is 110 whereas for the KO2s its 114. From what I understand, BFG advises its customers to run a higher tyre pressure, since lower pressure puts more strain on the higher ply rated sidewall. The tyre sidewall also mentions the max pressure for full load being 450kpa which is 65psi.
I ran my tyres on nitrogen at 35psi for the ~2500km road trip. The setup was definitely on the stiffer side, but I reckon I got a bit of extra FE with the higher pressure. I just got the wheel alignment done and found that barring the front left (which was affected by an alignment issue) all the others had only a very light & even wear. One thing I definitely did wrong was doing a bit rock/hill offroading at 32 psi. I have reduced the pressure to 29psi now and will go even lower for more challenging offroading expeditions.

The Tacoma is a larger truck and from what I gather the bed of the dual cab Tacoma is around 2 inches longer and wider.

Re: Toyota Hilux launched at Rs. 33.99 lakh

Hilux owner reporting high altitute engine issues after repeated manual DPF regeneration.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CgMSyxEJ-1b/

Has anyone else had an issue simlar to this so far?

I think in his case he was constantly stopping his car and manually regenerating it, since the DPF burnout needs the engine to be consistently revved at 2000+rpm for ~20mins (which needs highway driving @60-80kmph, and this is not possible in Leh/Zanskar/Spiti). Repeatedly idling the engine for so long and at such high revs kills it over time.

One solution to this problem I was thinking was to engage manual mode and keep 1st/2nd gear fixed (to ensure high RPM for DPF regenration) as you drive on the twisties. Would this be correct?

Re: Toyota Hilux launched at Rs. 33.99 lakh

Hello,

The Hilux is a great vehicle all round. I have adopted 5 villages in Uttrakhand - the first work being done is picking up plastic and garbage from the roads. Check out the pics.

Anyone who wants to pitch in this effort pls PM. Thanks
