If it is indeed based on the Brio/ Amaza/ Mobilio platform, then Honda better price it aggressively then banking on their old premium goodwill.

Are they launching HR-V? Or it is a different platform?

If we look at the pictures of car testing here and compare that with those of HR-V, then the car being tested is not HR-V. Positioning of rear door handles can indicate that. So, we may not get HR-V.

I am getting optimistic looking at these captures. The car looks really boxy and symmetrical.

I dont quite understand what the significant difference is with a company's various platforms. Please enlighten me. I see that the more distinguished BHPians make quite a big deal of it. As far as honda is concerned, in my limited knowledge, the amaze and brio have 5 speed manual gearboxes while the City has a 6 speed manual gear box. If this new SUV is based on the amaze/brio platform would that mean it will come with a 5 speed manual gear box?

Honda's mid SUV for India to be based on HR-V:

The upcoming Creta rival in India will be based on this. Looks good, cabin is airy and gets the Hybrid tech.

The rear is more crossover type than SUV

Expect neutral driving manners and the same good old 1.5 unit

This one looks cool and if priced right can give good competition to incumbents. Hope Honda retains the premium feel of this car. The segment is sure becoming exciting.

re: Honda's new SUV for India | EDIT: Named Elevate

Guys,

I think the India SUV could be either an India specific product or based on recently launched Elevate.

The HRV is truly a global product that is quite expensive in most markets - priced at par or more than Jeep Compass.

I don’t think Honda can price the HRV very competitively (at Creta levels) without compromising on its basics. Would love to be proven wrong, of course!

More details of Honda's SUV trickles in.

- seems to be a 10.0-inch (minimum) touchscreen infotainment system. With the segment really flooded with feature-packed cars.

Pics are not clear, but from what we can see it doesn't look like a rehash of ASEAN Honda interiors, but more in line with their international interior designs.

re: Honda's new SUV for India | EDIT: Named Elevate

An India specific - read 'cheapen the car for us 3rd world folks' - HR-V doesnt seem to make sense.

Cheapening a high quality car reeks of stupidity - but I wouldn't put that beyond Honda's India management, which has successfully sunk gold-plated nameplates such as the Accord, Civic, CR-V in their most recent launches and reduced the City to a value for money offering instead of a premium one. None of their brands are aspirational anymore.

There is a gap in the market for a high-quality urban SUV in the INR 25L - 30L on-road market and the HR-V would fit right in and profitably too.

Frankly if the VW/Skoda duo had got their servicing act together, the Virtus/Slavia would have finished off the City. I've been on the receiving end of VW service recently for my pre-worshipped VW Jetta and will never buy a new VW/Skoda ever !

Coming back to Honda - My gut tells me the India team is gussying up the BR-V with some desi-specific bits, which will make it another flop. They may be able to get it to look somewhat like the HR-V but the Amaze based bits will be hard to hide.

Below text from Autocar India's 2016 road test of the BR-V.
"For a start, there are the underpinnings – it’s based on the same GSP platform as the Mobilio, Amaze and Brio, not the Jazz or City, let alone the CR-V."

Bring the HR-V and watch it fly, modify the BR-V for India and watch it die !

re: Honda's new SUV for India | EDIT: Named Elevate

Honda's SUV to debut in the festive season of 2023.

- The C-segment SUV into India around July-August ahead of Onam.
- Followed by the launch of new products, including an electric car and the sixth generation.
- The midsize SUV will be a petrol-driven with manual and automatic transmission options.
The strong hybrid and the ADAS feature are also expected in higher variants of the new SUV that will make its global debut in India.
-The SUV will propel HCIL’s sales figures beyond the 1-lakh mark after two years and help Honda increase its market share from 2.5% at present.
-The company is projected to end this fiscal with domestic sales of 92,000 units and export of 23,0000 units.

Indeed a great news! Last time when I visited Honda showroom in January, there was renovation work in-progress and my service advisor friend informed that renovation is going on in all Honda showrooms India for their upcoming product launches. I believe the investment spending on this PR activities is high and hope the product will live up to the expectations of customers!

re: Honda's new SUV for India | EDIT: Named Elevate

Curious how would it be cost effective for Honda to develop an all new SUV like the HR-V(based on the Honda global small car platform for the non US markets) instead of launching the HR-V itself in India. As per the latest Autocar article this would be based on the City, not the Amaze and that makes me more curious. And would it go for sale only in India or exported to select foreign countries as well where HR-V isn't on sale.

Honda needs to get aggressive with it's marketing at the earliest else the Korean twins due for an update will play spoilsport.
