Audi has released a short teaser of the upcoming 2022 A8. The luxury sedan will take on the likes of the BMW 7 Series and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

The Audi A8 received a mid-life makeover last year. It now comes with a new radiator grille finished in chrome, redesigned front bumper with chrome inserts and reworked LED headlamps. The rear features sleek LED taillights with a light bar that stretches across the width of the car.

On the inside, the A8 comes with an updated touchscreen infotainment head-unit and dual 10.1-inch screens for rear-seat passengers. The car also gets a folding centre console table and cooler with a bar compartment.

The 2022 Audi A8 is expected to be offered with a 3.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that produces 335 BHP and 500 Nm. The engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and Audi's Quattro all-wheel drive system.

Another year, another mid cycle refresh or a LCI if you stay in the West!

I feel cars, especially in the higher spectrum, have got lover laden with techno wizardry. Among the current generation S, 7 and 8 class, I feel the A8 looks the class. Supremely straight horizontal lines and understated elegance.

I hope the EU & environmentalists let the OEMs make those V6 & V8 for some more years.

LCI (Life Cycle Impulse) is a BMW specific term

The reason why the S / 7 / 8 exist is to push the boundaries of what's possible in regular cars many years down the line

I plan to spend any money I reserve for cars in IC cars alone - Electric can wait - These beauties are beginning to be phased out

2022 Audi A8 L bookings open in India

Audi India has opened the order books for the 2022 A8 L. Customers can book the car by paying an initial booking amount of Rs 10,00,000.



In India, the new A8 L will be powered by a 3.0-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with a 48 V mild-hybrid system. It produces 335 BHP and 500 Nm and is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and Audi's Quattro all-wheel-drive system.

Audi design in my eyes used to be understated and elegant. This is pretty garish with all those chrome details, very China-centric I think.

Looks like Audi got obsessed and signed a deal with MG to get hold of the thermopressed concave radiator grille with chrome inserts.

Oh !! What is happening with the designers at Audi, Hyundai, BMW ?
Luxury cars used to be known for their elegance and style.

I think only Mercedes is still untouched by these gaudy designs, which is reflected in their sales numbers.

Did they run out of paint and decide to add chrome as a replacement?? All of this looks aftermarket and not in a good way. Buyers of the pre-facelift version must be rejoicing though.

Dear God! why such an overdose of chrome esp the grill and frontend? Maybe they are pandering to certain buyer segment which their research might have showed is considerably large.

The overdose overwhelms the elegant lines of the car. Elegant, classy, understated or no more the attributes of A8.

Audi is selling A8L RHD in the UK market with 3.0 TDI (EA 897evo3) engine only. Since A8L is already coming to India as a CBU offering under provision of GSR 870(E), Audi India should consider to bring the UK specific A8L RHD 3.0 TDI to India and sell some decent number of A8L, not just 20-30 TFSI cars a year, when competitors are doing 10 times over. Owners in this segment hardly drive themselves, and the frugal TDI engine will check the fuel efficiency box, and strike the right chord with Indian buyers. Somehow Indian buyers are fuel efficiency conscious in ₹ crore+ segment as well – little strange consumer behavior.

Also, the EA 897evo3 engine is already Euro 6d emission standard compliant and doesn’t need to undergo expensive homologation in India again.
